To Do Tonight: Celebrate Fat Tuesday
This year’s Clarendon Mardi Gras parade, scheduled for today, was canceled due to complications caused by last week’s snow storms. But worry not, Fat Tuesday partying will still go on.
Ragtime Restaurant in Courthouse is the place to be tonight for the food, drinks and music of New Orleans. Ragtime is offering an expanded Cajun menu, including fried oysters, shrimp and crawfish. That’s in addition to the usual Tuesday raw bar special.
The food may be tempting, but it’s not Fat Tuesday without some festive drink specials. Two beers from Louisiana brewery Abita are on special tonight: Abita Turbo Dog is on tap for $3, and Abita Purple Haze bottles are $3.50. Ragtime is also offering $6.50 Hurricanes and Cyclones.
The food and drinks will be complimented by live music. Arlington’s Brother Shamus will play from 6 to 9. Local New Orleans-style jazz band Le Bon Temps Krewe takes the stage from 9-11.
A $3 cover will be charged after 9:00.
Another Slow Commute
Update at 11:45 AM – I-395 North is still crawling for a three-mile stretch from Arlington to the 14th Street Bridge. Thankfully, congestion has started to clear out through portions of I-395 in Alexandria. The traffic camera image of I-395 at the Pentagon (below) was captured at 11:40 — an extraordinary sight for this time of day.
It’s not quite the traffic nightmare of Friday, but today’s commute is exceptionally slow in Northern Virginia.
The Arlington stretch of I-66 was backed up earlier, but it’s now beginning to clear out. I-395 North, meanwhile, is still jammed almost the entire way to the I-95 Interchange.
After Week-Long Snow Break, Students Return
Arlington students are set to return to school this morning after enjoying a snowy, week-long reprieve from classes.
Arlington Public Schools are opening on a two-hour delay today due to continued concerns about road and sidewalk conditions. Over the weekend, the county urged property owners to clear sidewalks so students could safely walk to and from school.
