The Arlington County Medical Reserve Corps is looking for a few good men and women to volunteer their time for public health initiatives and emergency responses. Volunteers with both medical and non-medical backgrounds are welcome.
New volunteers are required to attend an two-hour orientation session and should be ready and willing to assist staff in an emergency, participate in annual exercises and drills and support outreach and education projects. The next orientation will be held on Wednesday, April 7, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

“ACMRC members focus on emergency preparedness/response by assisting with public health emergencies (e.g., disease outbreaks, bioterrorism, power outages, hurricanes), public health outreach through projects and events that promote healthy living (e.g., proper flu etiquette, immunizations, HIV/AIDS education, food safety) and ongoing staff support (e.g., administrative assistance, medical record review). General and event-specific training is provided on topics such as mass medication dispensing, personal/family disaster preparedness, health communications, basic epidemiology, psychological first aid, CPR/First Aid, infection control, biological agents, hazardous materials, the National Incident Management System, and more.”

The Award is available to recent high school graduates and non-traditional students (see the application for more details). Each recipient may be awarded up to $20,000. Applicants are required to submit an online application form as well as a short video application.
The applicant must be an Arlington resident pursuing a career or technical education accredited program, within a high-growth career, that will be completed within two years.
