County to Test Outdoor Warning System in Courthouse

Arlington County will be testing its outdoor warning system speaker system in Courthouse this afternoon.

The county says people in the Courthouse area may hear “loud horns and/or a test message” between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

    Is that what those speakers are for? I’ve never figured out why they’re there. There are some in Rosslyn at Wilson and Ft Myer and also in Pentagon City at Hayes and 12th. What kind of warning are they for?

    They’re for sudden emergencies like tornadoes, 9/11 type stuff, etc. Unlike the old style sirens, a recorded or live message could be broadcast to tell you what to and where to go. You may notice that they’re intentionally located in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
