Buffalo Wild Wings Sets December Opening Date

by ARLnow.com — November 23, 2010 at 7:54 am 2,399 31 Comments

It now appears that Buffalo Wild Wings will be opening its Crystal City location in December, after all.

An insider tells us that the wings, beer and sports joint is planning to open on Monday, Dec. 13 (Update: Thursday, Dec. 16). Last month we told you that the restaurant’s opening would either be in December or February, depending on the pace of progress.

The restaurant is located in a large, glass-paneled retail space at the corner of Crystal Drive and 23rd Street, across from Jaleo. Crews were hard at work preparing the interior when we peeked inside yesterday afternoon.

This will be the sixth Buffalo Wild Wings location in the area. It will be one of two that are near a Metro station (in addition to the Rockville location) and the closest to D.C. proper.

Woot for even more food options in CC! And to think, I wanted to move to N. Arlington….

  • Jonathan

Excited this is opening soon. Great to see more options coming to Crystal City, especially those catering to the after 5pm crowd!

  • FedUpinCC

    Dear Arlington County,
Thank you for contributing to the McDonaldization of Crystal City. I am so glad that I can now enjoy your utopian “Manhattan on the Potomac” while drinking my Bud Light at BWW and eating my hormone-injected meat at Chick-Fil-A.
    Sincerely,

Ah flashbacks to college towns such as Lawrence, KS; Columbus, OH; Mt. Pleasant and E. Lansing, MI…NTN trivia!

  • el fat kid

few things are more soul-less than eating ‘signature’ wings from some chain restaurant in a big glass building in the middle of an evening ghost town. maybe if they put in an applebees next it will completely eliminate all need to go out to reston.

  • http://idontgiveaschmidt.com Adam Eaton

@FedUpinCC & @elfatkid You two really need to calm down. BWW is a great chain and an awesome location for meeting friends. As a resident of Crystal City I couldn’t be happier they are opening a few blocks away from my complex. If you don’t like it, MOVE. No one is forcing you to live there. Unless of course you made a poor financial decision and are tied down to your condo or house payment that you can’t get out of. There’s hope. You can always find love at Crystal City Restaurant…look, but don’t touch.

    • el fat kid

yes. nothing like making wild assumptions about one’s economic situation b/c of their disdain for overpriced and generic wing joints.

      • Mark

Overpriced and generic? Really? Where do you get you wings then, because there is no selection in this area. It’s pretty apparent you don’t know what you are talking about. I grew up with BW3′s and Quaker Steak and Lube and nothing here compares to that.

        • el fat kid

oh. clearly you are quite the expert, having grown up with chain restaurants. It takes a special person to take in pride in the ability to authoritatively discuss why you think applebees has better cuisine than ruby tuesday’s but that all in all the olive garden is a better deal. congrats, you win. ‘BW3′ is so sahweet, bro.

          • Jim

you are such an angry, bitter person. please don’t post on this site. thx.

          • el fat kid

and you use 5 different logins to argue with yourself, validate your own points, and pick fights then back yourself up. let me guess, while maintaining all your personalities on here… you’re wearing black jeans and playing dungeons and dragons on a linux-based machine w/ your friend Sven399 in Norway and starting to get a little annoyed b/c Sven399 wants to put down the 20 sided dice and go to bed (after all, they are 6 hrs ahead, even in the land of 7th level orc-wizards) So please, Jim/Mark/Whatever names you use… in all worlds which are currently your reality, chillax, it’s just the interwebs.

        • Kimmiw

You must be from the Midwest :) I am from Cleveland and can safely say that there arent any wing joints in all of Arlington let alone Crystal City. BW3 is not your typical chain and anyone that has visited would know it.

  • Christine

@elfatkid. do you have a recommendation for a good wing joint around here? i’m happy to patronize local establishments over chains.

    • el fat kid

they few and far between… Wingos and Duffy’s aren’t terrible. for better and reasonably priced wings you really have to drive up to PA or down south beyond Richmond.

      • JClark

Oh ok, so on any given Tue night I’m going to drive up to PA or down to Richmond for when I want to get some wings. Look I’d LOVE a mom and pop wings shop, etc to open up within reasonable distance for a quick dinner during the week but until then…BW3 will have to do.

  • Arlington, Northside

I like their wings, and as long as they don’t kick out any of the local joints, would love to have one in Ballston.

    • wooot

Check out First Down, it’s owned by the same people that own Wing Factory in Chantilly. Probably some of the better wings in this area.

  • MikeyinCrystalC

Besides folks, less empty retail space in any neighborhood, the better!

  • Suburban Not Urban

An important new addition to the community

The buffalo on the flier looks like a skunk.

    • Lou

A skunk with horns would be a pretty cool adaptation.

  • Boom! Roasted

Crystal City’s main focus should be to attract foot traffic to the area. Adding a place like BWW with its built-in customer base is a good move. 23rd Street still has all local restaurants, and judging by the rapid turnover there aren’t enough nearby customers to keep them in business.

  • FedUpinCC

@Boom! Roasted yes, it’s a very savvy move to cater to the throngs of tourists in CC. The next Glenn Beck rally attendees will be very happy. @Adam Eaton. lol. i love how there is a permanent sign that says “New York Strip” outside of CC restaurant. What is ridiculous is that Arl Co is trying to market Rosslyn and Crystal City as “Manhattans on the Potomac.” Absolutely comical. I guess I should move to Clarendon if I want a yuppy paradise.

  • Jen

I couldn’t be happier!! I’m not saying Bdubs has the best wings I’ve ever eaten, but their sauce selection is unbeatable! If you’re looking for something sweet with a little kick, try the mango habanero…by far the best in my opinion. I’ve been less than impressed with the lack of wing diversity in this area and Bdubs brings just that.

  • North Highlands

    Excited for their NTN trivia!

  • Marco

I have not had BWW’s wings (yet) but to date, I think Hard Times has the best wings in the area.

BDUBS!!! I dont care who doesnt like this place. I will pay the mortgage for them and eat bw3′s every day for the rest of my life!!!

  • Meg

Are they giving away free wings for a year for the first 100 customers on opening day like they usually do?
