Bayou Bakery owner and chef David Guas has been nominated for Food & Wine Magazine’s The People’s Best New Chef award.

Guas is one of ten chefs nominated for the award in the Mid-Atlantic region, and one of 100 chefs nominated nationwide. Other local nominees include Kyle Bailey of Birch & Barley, Dan Giusti of 1789 Restaurant, and Nicholas Stefanelli of Bibiana.

The ultimate winner will be decided by an online vote. The winners in each of the ten geographic regions will be featured in the July issue of Food and Wine.

Bayou Bakery is located at 1515 North Courthouse Road in Courthouse.

As a huge fan of the Bakery, congrats Mr. Guas!

As much as I like the idea, went to Bayou for lunch one today and can’t say I was impressed at all. Had the ArmDrip and was just a bland, messy, roast beef sandwich – willing to give the place another shot though…

I’ve eaten lunch there several times and have become a big fan of Bayou Bakery. I just have to try dinner there sometime….

Wonderful gumbo – even if a certain food critic didn’t like it. (Gumbo does not have to be overpowering) Outstanding chef and staff. Interesting how a place with lines of people gets such a bad review in the Post, nastily printed twice in one week for effect! If the food is as bad as the Post food critic states, why so popular? I love it, as hoards of fans do! Congrats to Chef Guas.

Yeah, that Post review was a bit strange. It seemed to me that the text of the review did not justify the star rating, 1.5 (I think).

Is this the same guy I used to always see at the old Cajun place that used to be tucked way in the back at the Courthouse complex, near the Italian place? It had giant papier-mache statues of I think it was waiters. That was a good restaurant.

Where is Steve on this subject?
