This week’s Arlington County crime report contains several items of note. On Thursday, a bullet was fired into a Pentagon City apartment. Nobody was injured and nobody knows who fired the bullet.
MISSILE INTO AN OCCUPIED DWELLING 04/18/11, 1300 block of S. Arlington Ridge Road. On April 14 at midnight, an unknown subject fired a bullet into an occupied apartment. No one was injured. There are no known suspects.
The event is being held at the Bikeshare station at Fort Myer Drive and Wilson Boulevard. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Bikeshare representatives will be demonstrating how the system works and giving away bike maps, CaBi schwag and one-day membership coupons.
The three other locations where Bikeshare stations were installed this weekend are North Lynn Street and 19th Street, North Pierce Street and Clarendon Boulevard, and North Rhodes and 16th Street North.

On Thursday afternoon Karen Dubin, 56, was waiting to cross the northbound lanes of the GW Parkway, south of Memorial Bridge, when she was struck by a pickup truck, according to U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser. Dubin, of Bethesda, was transported to George Washington University Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries last night, Schlosser said.
Witness accounts posted here and on a blog created to update friends and family on Dubin’s condition shed light on how the accident happened. According to multiple accounts, Dubin was standing on the side of the Parkway near the north ramp to Memorial Bridge when a couple of cars stopped to let her cross. A pickup truck apparently didn’t see the stopped cars in time and swerved to avoid a rear-end collision. The truck struck Dubin and became pinned on top of her. Fellow joggers and other witnesses rushed to the scene and helped to lift the big truck off of Dubin while others called 911. She was conscious, alert and talking when she was brought to the hospital.
The fire started in the kitchen and produced a lot of smoke, but was quickly extinguished once firefighters made their way into the building. Fire damage should be confined to the kitchen, but there may be some smoke damage and a few broken windows elsewhere in the pub.
Police shut down Wilson Boulevard at N. Rhodes Street during the incident to allow fire equipment to position itself around the building.
Yesterday, our District-based reverse chronological publishing counterpart DCist went on a very familiar-sounding quest to find the source of loud, early morning booming noises that roused the fair residents of D.C. from their slumber. Of course, they immediately started blaming Arlington.
First they called an Arlington County spokesperson to ask if the noise came from blasting at the Rosslyn Metro station.

HOT Lanes Lawsuit Bill Reaches $2 Million — The county emerged victorious in February when VDOT abandoned its plan to build High Occupancy Toll lanes on I-395. But the legal battle has proven costly. East Falls Church Dissent Goes Both Ways — Sometimes it can be hard to please everybody in Arlington. Charlie Clark reports that there were three different camps at Saturday’s County Board meeting with respect to the board’s vote on the East Falls Church development plan. One group wanted more development than was called for, another vocal group wanted less development, and the people who drafted the plan thought it struck a good balance. [Falls Church News-Press]
Police are on the scene of a deer found lying in the middle of I-66.
The deer was hit and killed by a vehicle near Sycamore Street, where I-66 was shut down yesterday morning due to multiple accidents caused by deer in the roadway.
