Sprayground Parks Open for Summer

The county’s three “sprayground” parks opened for business over the weekend, just in time for our first heat wave of the year.

The kid-friendly water parks will be open through Labor Day. Due to budget cuts last year, the parks will continue operating under reduced hours.

Arlington’s sprayground parks include Drew Playground (3514 22nd Street S.), Hayes Park (1516 N. Lincoln Street) and Lyon Village Park (1800 N. Highland Street).

The county is hoping to open a fourth spraygound park near Pentagon City next year.

The weekend hours are ridiculous. These sprayparks are used primarily by toddlers who are too young to swim in a pool. These kids are usually taking naps from 1-3 PM or so. So a large portion of the day the parks are open, the kids that would be using them are eating lunch or taking naps. Good planning…

Yes, a new, very expensive facility that will be open at very limited hours of the day and year. Until good times are here again and all the spraygrounds need an overhaul. Arlington has more expensive amenities than it can handle, or keep operating, or keep open, or pay for. All the county cares about is providing eye candy and being trendy.

Still don’t understand why two of the three spraygrounds turned off the water at 3pm on Memorial Day. Ran into several other parents at Drew who were wondering the same thing.

And it took money for someone to come out and turn the valve or to install a timer. Maybe bond rating agencies know something we don’t.

Forget the fourth sprayground and restore hours at the three already running!
