TRAFFIC ALERT — Major Delays on I-395

by ARLnow.com — September 8, 2011 at 7:52 am 2,127 5 Comments

Nearly the entire length of northbound I-395 is slow this morning, thanks in part to an accident near the 14th Street Bridge.

Crews are still in the process of cleaning up a multi-vehicle accident in the center lanes of 395, just before the Boundary Channel Drive. Police are on the scene.

Traffic clears out after the accident, but expect a nightmare commute on northbound I-395 if you get on anywhere before Pentagon City.

I had no problem riding my bicycle in between the cars stuck on the 14th Street bridge. Didn’t have to stop or yield or anything.

Who cares? What do you want, a medal?

I don’t think you got the joke.

(JOKE SPOILER ALERT) If he were actually riding on the 14th Street bridge in between cars, he’d be riding on I-395. It is illegal for cyclists (and other non-motorized vehicles) to ride on interstate highways. That is also why there is a separated sidewalk/bike path on the bridge. Thus, it was a fictitious situation (or he really got away with something so blatantly illegal he should get a medal for it, or at least be put in a mental institution for such a crazy act).

I drove by this accident shortly after it happened. It was not a serious/complex accident caused by the weather: Iit was a rear-end crash that affected six vehicles. A headache for many would have be avoided if folks had paid attention and left a bit more stopping room.

Twas awful indeed. Took 15 minutes to go 1.4 miles from Glebe to Washington BLVD
