Another Coffee Shop Coming to Crystal City

Crystal Drive might as well be called Coffee Drive. Another coffee shop is planning to open on the southern end of the office-heavy thoroughfare later this fall.

We’re told that a coffee shop recently approved for construction at 2450 Crystal Drive, near Buffalo Wild Wings, will be a Seattle’s Best Coffee franchise. The owners are hoping to open around mid-November.

The coffee shop will be located on a block that sits between two Starbucks — one at 2600 Crystal Drive and the other at 2231 Crystal Drive. Seattle’s Best, it should be noted, is a subsidiary of Starbucks.

Other coffee shops along Crystal Drive in Crystal City include Caribou Coffee, at 2100 Crystal Drive, and Dunkin Donuts, in the Crystal City underground near 18th Street.

    Don’t forget the Starbucks in the Underground. There are four altogether (used to be five before they closed the one in the Marriott).

It could have a market if it stays open after 7…all the other coffee spots in CC seem to close around then.

      Because of the significant population drop in CC at night compared to day. Yes my statement was hyperbole, I do know there are more then 5 people in this town. I actually like CC and have no problem against it. But there is no denying the drastic difference in night and day. I am sorry if you somehow took offense to this

      I’ve worked the night shift in CC for the past three years and it’s an accurate assessment, although Chick-Fil-A and Buffalo Wild Wings have helped to make it less noticeable this past year.

I’d like to see an independent coffee shop open, something that isn’t incorporated. St. Elmo tried on 23rd street many years ago but it didn’t last long (and it wasn’t a very good space anyway). I’d happily trade the same-old-same-old Starbucks in Pentagon Row for a Java Shack – lucky Court House.

  What’s amazing though is that people seem to prefer Starbucks. There are Starbucks located in Old Town, for example, near other more local establishments (like Firehook), and they are usually busier. I think it’s amazing how Starbucks has basically replaced the generic term “coffee shop.” It’s more impressive to me than even McDonalds or Microsoft, since those two created the new market. Starbucks took over an existing one and grew it exponentially.
  I avoid them whenever I can.
