Randolph Elementary third grade teacher Matt Tosiello, Arlington’s Teacher of the Year, was in New York City yesterday for the NBC News Education Nation summit.
While there, Tosiello participated in a two-hour Teacher Town Hall with NBC’s Brian Williams. The event focused on the struggles teachers face in the classroom and on future opportunities for improving the country’s educational system. (Tosiello can be seen briefly, holding an iPhone in this NBC Nightly News clip.)
Before the summit, Tosiello talked to NBC4′s Aaron Gilchrist.

Thanks for sharing this. This guy is pretty awesome.
Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher” seems appropriate right about now.

Superintendent Patrick Murphy, listen to Arlington’s Teacher of the Year. You only care about math and science statistics. If you force your far fetched ideas, such as block scheduling at the middle schools level to decrease science and social studies teaching, Arlington schools will continue to suffer under your leadership.
I certainly hope he was not on the Arlington dime for his hotel, food, or transportation. We need to watch our pennies.
Mike, I doubt it (I’m a teacher). When I’ve gone to conferences, APS has only paid for my sub–I’ve had to cover the hotel, cost of the conference, etc.
Arlington has some of the best schools in the nation and this teacher is the cream of the crop. We must be doing something right.
