Today is World AIDS Day, and Arlington County is marking the occasion by offering free HIV testing.
The HIV rapid testing is available from 4:00 to 7:00 this afternoon at 800 S. Walter Reed Drive. No appointment is necessary, but residents can call 703-228-1200 for more information.
More information about the county’s HIV and STD testing services is available here.

Please tell me they are making sure those getting this service – paid by taxpayers – is for county residents only.
It clearly states in the “Eligibility” section of the health clinic page linked above that “You can live anywhere and come to our clinics.”
I think public health surrounding a communicable disease that’s often referred to as “epidemic” is one of those issues that might justify local taxpayer funds even for the visitor who isn’t paying Arlington county taxes. Besides, this local service is likely supported by some federal funding.
How would you keep it anonymous (as stated on the health clinic) if you required them to prove residency? What about homeless people with no fixed address or documentation? What about minors? I can support this use of tax dollars.
it is not anonymous in Virginia. thank you southern state.
The health department website (linked in the article) indicates that you can opt for anonymous testing.
Right, because public health threats observe county borders.
And will the taxpayers pay for the costly treatments? Will the taxpayers be penalized for the AIDS victim’s lifestyle?
Right, because the only people who ever get AIDS are promiscuous folks who don’t use protection and junkies with used needles.
Even if you are not a Arlington Resident, you can still get free HIV/AIDS testing and any other general screening for STDs through Arlington Human Services…

Shouldn’t it be called World Anti-AIDS Day?
Hold this at the Artisphere.
Get tested, folks. You never know when your spouse, girlfriend, jump off, is sleeping around on you.
