The 18th annual Light Up Rosslyn ceremony was held last night, under the WJLA Jumbotron at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and N. Lynn Street.
Dozens gathered to listen to live holiday music, to drink free hot chocolate, and to see County Board Chairman Chris Zimmerman flip the ceremonial switch to illuminate the rooftops of nearly 40 Rosslyn buildings. The annual event also featured a clothing drive for the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network.

Looks very nice – none of the smiling faces probably got there on Metro, though. Not one, but TWO westbound O-line trains totally emptied and taken out of service at Rosslyn during last night’s rush. Trip from Metro Center to Courthouse took an hour.
now if those people had just left the subway station and come up and enjoyed the festivities it would have doubled, no, tripled, the crowd.
True – but when the disgruntled Metro patrons saw former long-time Metro Board Member Zimmerman, the event may have become, shall I say, not so “merry”
zimmie claims to have nothing to do with METRO.
it would have been nice if he had stuck around to clean up the mess he helped create. i guess that would be asking too much.
He’s making a mess of the Pike trolley now.
We really need to start Fark-like Photoshop threads. That pic of Zimmy flipping the switch is ripe for some Photoshopping.
LOL. I wsa thinking the same thing. Too bad we can’t post pics here anymore.
The image posting feature might be coming back. We’re negotiating a contract with a developer right now, believe it or not.
You could make a forum post for it. I’ve never found the Fark photoshop threads to be particularly entertaining tho.
I know what you mean, they’ve sort of lost their luster. I haven’t been there in ages but at one time they cracked me up.
Love how the event was from 5-6:15PM but the actual lighting didn’t take place til 6:30. Kinda backwards, huh?
Don’t know if I would call the tv outside WJLA a “jumbotron.” It’s pretty puny when compared to other more technologically advanced video boards.
This point needed to be made. Thank you.
