Registration Open for Crystal City Twilighter 5K

by ARLnow.com | June 29, 2012 at 10:45 am | 1,745 views | 21 Comments

Registration is open for the annual Crystal City Twilighter 5K.

The Pacers-organized race is scheduled to take place at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. The start and finish will be located on Crystal Drive between 20th and 23rd Streets. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 5 overall male and female finishers. Merchandise prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in 10 different age groups, from 0-5 to 70+.

Unlike in previous years, the race course is now expected to take runners mostly south instead of north. Due to construction on the northern end of Crystal Drive, we’re told that runners will now head south on Potomac Avenue, toward Potomac Yard, before heading back toward Crystal City.

Ready for the CC Sizzler. Remember to hydrate!

Woohoo, I love this race because it’s always miserably hot. The past two years it’s been 95+ at the starting line – and despite that the Virginia 5k road record was broken (last year, I believe).

    • CW

He was probably very motivated to finish…

  • WeiQiang

Registered … where can I park near the route?

    • nom de guerre

In the Boeing regional headquarters parking garage-I hear they have 5000 spaces.

      • WeiQiang

      • WeiQiang

        uh … bro

    • VaGurl

also theres several parking garages up and down crystal city the one on 23rd across from Memphis is free on weekends and it should be open early before street closures.

      • WeiQiang

Thanks. Good info for racers. It was kind of an inside joke.

    • CrystalMikey

“Unlike in previous years, the race course is now expected to take runners mostly south instead of north.”

If the start and finish lines are in the same location, which I think is the case, wouldn’t runners have to go just as much north as they go south? Certainly looks that way on the course map on line.

Think of it more like this:

You’re standing at the intersection of Rt 50 and Washington Blvd (both start and finish line), and Rt 50 is the dividing line between North and South.

Your initial heading could take you northwest toward Nirvana/Clarendon (mostly north – granted you’d have to eventually turn southward to the finish) – but the entire race would be in Heaven.
Conversely, your initial heading could take you south toward the *ugh* trolley (and you’d finish the race by heading north) – and the entire race would be on the wrong side of the tracks.

I’m already signed up. Registration opened quite some time ago. Looking forward to another outdoor broiling experience!

    • nom de guerre

Speaking of broiling, today’s daily special at Sam’s Corner features broiled Spam slices on artisanal Wonder Bread topped with Cheese Whiz and shallot infused mayonaise with herbs de provence. Only while supplies last.

This sounds miserable. Maybe this is the motivation I need to start running this weekend? Off to register. I will be staring at every fit and handsome young man wondering if he is WeiQiang.

    • WeiQiang

Hint: I will be not be pacing the pack.

    • nom de guerre

Will you be packing the pace?

      • WeiQiang

        clown question, brah.

        • nom de guerre

Slam a double suitcase, two PROPER SLICES and an quarter elbow ( quarter pound) of powdered garlic, bro.
