Found it on the Patrick Henry listserv, and, yes, it was an attempted abduction:

The Arlington County Police Department is currently investigating an attempted enticement of a 10 year-old boy as he was walking home from Patrick Henry Elementary School yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of S. 8th Street around 3:45 p.m., when a light-colored sedan driven by a Hispanic male approximately 40-45 years of age with short dark hair approached the child and attempted to lure the boy into the vehicle. The boy was able to run away and reported the incident to his father.

Or maybe it was an Arlington parent/taxpayer/citizen documenting excesses of the school bus system(load factors etc) or the difficulties of walking to school due to new bus restrictions. My, my, why is everything assumed to be a crime. Turn off your crime shows and consult actual data. Crime is down but fear is up. Also, assuming all men are criminals does not bode well for our sons...they too will have to live in this society biased against the single male at the park etc. Not all are criminals!! And strangers are not bad! Remember, YOU are a stranger too!

While I am interested in seeing some good books on the bullying problem, I'm not sure I want to go the the library to get them. I mean, does anyone know how infrequently they disinfect these libraries!? It's a damn petri dish with bookshelves! Shudder!

Mine?

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and assert that bullying has been a problem for a while, and that victims of bullying often couldn't fight back (not that they should be expected to fight just to protect themselves from assault) and that victims are often weak or disabled, without citations to back me up.
