A private ambulance and another vehicle collided this afternoon in the Waycroft-Woodlawn neighborhood, near Ballston.

The accident happened at the intersection of Washington Blvd and N. Buchanan Street, approximately five blocks from Virginia Hospital Center. No word on the cause of the crash nor on whether there were any injuries.

The ambulance, marked “Physicians Transport Service,” suffered front end damage and had to be towed away. The other vehicle, said to be BMW, was also carted away via tow truck. A street sign at the intersection was down, but it’s unclear if it was knocked down as a result of the accident.

“approximately five blocks from Washington Hospital Center?”

    • Quoth the Raven

…if you’re travelling at the speed of light in a vacuum.

      • drax

It is about five blocks, and it’s five blocks whether you’re going really fast or standing perfectly still.

        • drax

Okay, got it now. Dammit, guys.

easy there, cowboy. don’t be so hard on yourself.

          • drax

I get nervous when you call me “cowboy.” And stop staring at me like that.

    Virginia Hospital Center!

Thanks for the hattap, the other car was a silver BMW SUV .. lots of passenger side damage, looked to be broadsided and hit near dead center of SUV. Was in a nearby lawn and towtruck was pulling it out.

Extraneous details, BrianKal. People here are only interested in which state issued the license plates and whether the driver was wearing a helmet.

  • Right of Center

Where was the streetcar when this was all going down?

    • YTK

At Pepes Food Truck — the driver was getting refueled

  • Heisenberg

Man, that ain’t no ambulance, that’s a meth lab!

  • Glebe Roader

Not that it matters, but those kinds of private ambulances are usually going to the hospice between 15th and 16th.

  • JimPB

DId the ambulance have emergency lights and/or siren on? Was it transporting a patient?

On what street (Washington, Buchanan), going in what direction was each vehicle going?
A Google Map photo of the intersection shows that traffic on Washington has the right away (there are stop signs for Buchanan traffic at its intersection with Washington).

Did the ACPD issue a citation to a driver? If so, which one?

    • Glebe Roader

“…that traffic on Washington has the right away…”

      Traffic has the right-of-way.

Was anyone using a smartphone or a tablet? If so, what brand and model? Did anyone have a flauta from Pepe’s? Were any of the individuals wearing helmets?
