Enjera Restaurant to Replace Tagolio?

Tagolio Pizzeria and Enoteca (549 23rd Street S.), which closed after its owner was accused of rape and ultimately convicted of assault and battery, is apparently being replaced by Enjera Restaurant.

It’s currently unclear who currently owns the restaurant, but Enjera Eritrean Restauarnt & Bar was the name of the well-regarded eatery that preceded Tagolio. It served Eritrean cuisine, which is similar to Ethiopian cuisine. Enjera closed in 2010 .

As of Tuesday night, the restaurant was not open, but signs were up on the awning and the door.

In other 23rd Street news, it appears that Cafe Pizzaiolo has been replaced by a restaurant called Stone Hearth. Drove by yesterday, and saw that they had put up a new sign.

      or possibly “Hearth Stone”

Supposedly it’s the same food as Cafe Pizzaiolo, but under new management. http://www.facebook.com/HearthstonePizzaBistro

The story on their website says they bought out an existing shop. The menus look almost exactly the same but the prices for many things are $0.50 – $1 less. Hopefully the meatball subs are the same. Love those things.

I was there the other night. The menu will remain the same, with the additon of some other ‘comfort food.’ They’re also planning to renovate and add a bar. It’s a great place and the Bella is one of my all-time favorite pizzas so I’m happy to keep patronizing them.

I wonder if they could be talked into recreating the Campana from Tagolio (pear, 4 cheese, procuttio and arugula).

Sad to see Tagolio go under. I loved that place.
