That joke would have been funny in the Cold War, but right now Gazprom and pro-Kremlin Russians living in the Crimea are probably the biggest reason why Ukraine remains attached to Moscow. Hell, there was even talk of them joining NATO a few years back.

Good thing we’ve gotten a metal tree. With all the teardowns/McMansions taking out the remaining tree canopy (see article earlier in week re corner of Wash Blvd and Geo Mason), it will be the only reminder left. That, or driving to Prince Wm.

the high rises going up now are poseurs. you haven’t seen anything, yet. wait until the owners of the River House Apartments want to redevelop all that land along S Joyce across from Pent Row. the land could add double or triple its density (more and higher buildings) and still not look congested. actually, i think this is why the local neighborhood associations are fighting Pen Place … they may be girding for the fight over River House in 5 or 10 years over bulding height and traffic. the upside potential (rental and tax revenues) for that land is crazy huge.
