Major Delays at Reagan National Airport

US Airways jetliner on approach to Reagan National AirportIf someone you know is scheduled to fly into Reagan National Airport this afternoon, they might be facing significant delays.

Arrivals at DCA are currently delayed an average of two and a half hours due to a low cloud ceiling, according to the FAA. The agency’s website says a “traffic management program (ground stop) is in effect for [air] traffic arriving” at the airport.

One tipster who was scheduled to return to DCA from Orlando today on Jet Blue says he and his fellow passengers were just asked to get off the plane and wait for the flight to be rescheduled.

Update at 1:25 p.m. — Via Twitter, readers are reporting delays and cancellations for departing flights as well.

Given what the North East is going through, I think we can stomach a few delays.

What a joke our transportation system is.

The departure issues are a given. If no planes are getting in, there are no planes to turn around and fly out.

No worries. The delays correspond with the delays experienced with Metro. Its a wash.

Sitting in fort lauderdale waiting to fly to reagan. We have been delayed for 3 hours. But in the meantime ninety minutes in the delay we had people leaving from miami to fly to reagan so not everyone is stranded or being duped by jetblue!

They might have landed at Dulles instead. A few DCA-bound flights diverted to Dulles.

My brother was supposed to fly in from Dayton, OH landing at 1 p.m. They delayed for 3 hours then cancelled the flight altogether. He rescheduled for tomorrow – hope it’s better by then.
