Crime Report: Man with Knives Threatens Coworker

A man wielding two knives was arrested on Thursday for allegedly threatening to hurt a coworker in Shirlington.

The suspect then took off, according to this week’s Arlington County crime report:

ATTEMPTED MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 05/30/13, 2900 block of S. Quincy Street. At 8:36 pm on May 30, a subject threatened to harm a coworker with two knives. The subject fled the scene on foot and taken into custody outside his residence. Tevin Brown Phillips, 21, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding. He was held on a secured bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 06/01/13, Bike Trail in the 5600 block of Four Mile Run. At 11:05 am on June 1, a female victim was stabbed in the neck area three times after screaming for help when an unknown suspect attempted to get her off the bike trail. The suspect fled the scene on foot and the victim was transported to Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male in his 20’s, approximately 4’8″ tall and 130 lbs. He was wearing a yellow Polo shirt and dark pants.

ROBBERY, 06/01/13, 1000 block of N. Cleveland Street. At 2:45 am on June 1, a female victim walking home alone was confronted by a unknown suspect and robbed of her iPhone. The suspect is described as a Asian male in his early twenties and approximately 5’4″ tall. He was wearing a light colored t-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

PROSTITUTION, 06/03/13, 1400 block of S. Crystal Drive. At 12:12 am on June 3, a man was arrested and charged with prostitution. It was learned he had an outstanding warrant issued by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement as well. Benito Ruben Barahona Zambrano, 23, of Miami, FL, was arrested and charged with prostitution. He is being held without bond.

The STEAM Workforce Development Teacher Fellowship provides Arlington Public Schools (APS) high school, middle school, and elementary school teachers with opportunities to learn about workplace needs in STEAM-related fields and for them to use the experience to enhance student learning to match workplace expectations in a selected industry. STEAM Fellows participate in a three-week summer fellowship, receiving a $4,000 stipend upon completion.

Applicants planning to pursue a fellowship in the arts must demonstrate how they will build connections between the arts and science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
