Arlington Pet of the Week: Rex and Mac

Becky's Pet Care

This week’s Arlington Pet(s) of the Week are Rex and Mac, two English bulldogs whose snorts can be heard all over Clarendon and Courthouse.

Here’s what owner Lindsey had to say about her short-snouted friends:

If you live anywhere near the Clarendon/Courthouse area you’ve probably seen (and heard) Rex and Mac strutting their stuff through town. That is, if the temperature is just right. If not, the strut becomes more like a crawl for Rex, and Mac has to help pull his brother along. You can’t miss the chorus of bulldog snorts as they approach from behind. They love to say hi, but don’t stop us if we have some momentum going or we may never get moving again. They can also be seen sunning themselves at our front door, barking a greeting to anyone passing by and protecting their 11-month-old human brother.

Rex just turned 6 and has been with us since he was 8 weeks old! He’s our first born baby and a sweet, laid back type of guy. He’s 65 pounds of pure wrinkly love! His tongue looks like it belongs to a bear and loves to give sloppy, drooly, bad breath kisses. He will sit there all day and just let you scratch his butt or behind his ears. Rex’s favorite pastimes include waiting at the freezer to be hand fed ice cubes and standing with two feet in the shower and two feet out while he drinks from the jets. He’s truly a special dog!

Mac is 2 years old and is a 60-pound, brindle ball of energy! If I didn’t know better, I’d think he was part boxer because he loves to run, jump and play. Aren’t all bulldogs supposed to be lazy 24 hours a day? Not Mac! He’s definitely got his lazy side though and can be found fast asleep on his back with all four legs up in the air snoring like an old man. Mac loves to cuddle and fall asleep with his head in your lap. He makes an excellent lap dog… all 60 pounds of him!

Rex wasn’t too sure of Mac when we first introduced them, but they are now the best of friends. Mac is such a good younger brother that he endlessly licks Rex’s ear just to make sure he’s nice and clean. The TV has to be on high volume when these two are playing tug of war, and the sounds effects are priceless. Although we have to sleep with ear plugs, sound machines, and fans in order to drown out the bully snoring, I can’t imagine ever living without these two amazing pups!
