Flash Flood Watch Issued

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Arlington County and much of the surrounding D.C. and Baltimore region.

The watch is in effect from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters with the National Weather Service say that heavy rain predicted tonight may cause flash flooding.

The watch was issued as Prince George’s County, Md. begins to dry out following torrential rains and dangerous flash flooding this morning.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF MARYLAND… THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND NORTHERN VIRGINIA… INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS… IN MARYLAND… ANNE ARUNDEL… CARROLL… FREDERICK MD… HARFORD… HOWARD… MONTGOMERY… NORTHERN BALTIMORE… PRINCE GEORGES AND SOUTHERN BALTIMORE. THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA… ARLINGTON/FALLS CHURCH/ALEXANDRIA… FAIRFAX… LOUDOUN AND PRINCE WILLIAM/MANASSAS/MANASSAS PARK.

* THROUGH LATE TONIGHT

* HEAVY RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN OVER PORTIONS OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA… CENTRAL MARYLAND… AND WASHINGTON DC TODAY. THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT MORE HEAVY RAIN WILL FALL WITH THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON. ANY STORMS THAT FORM WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
