Arlington Pet of the Week: Gracie

Becky's Pet Care

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week, Gracie, was rescued during the Derecho storm in 2012, lured to her new owners with French fries.

Here’s what one rescuer, Mills, had to say about her feline friend:

I took a chance and bravely walked up to my future mom and dad during the 100+ degree days of Derecho 2012. All she had were French fries and I was glad that she shared that. I was a year-old (according the vet), scrawny, runny-eyed, starving, flea-bitten kitten. Mom rushed me to the vet that same day to get me cleaned up and arranged for my “innards” to be fixed without my permission. That nice vet also had to treat me for allergies that, to this day, I have never been able to shake. But no matter, I have a home, toys, food, love, and bedding that make up for it.

The vet thought I may have some “Russian Blue” blood in me based upon my handsome looks, velvety coat, voracious appetite, and overall personality.

My mom constantly reminds me that, “I need a job.” Personally I think my 4 times a day eating habits are fine. I then remind her that I was once worshipped by kings and pharaohs.

As you can see, I am very active and I provide round-the-clock entertainment and love (for a small price of food and treats, of course). I try to engage my 13-year old brothers, but they are having none of it… which leads me to entertain the parental units or just myself. Little did my parents know the love, comfort, mischief, and humor that I would bring to this household. I thank God and them for rescuing me from the mean streets and harsh temperatures of Derecho.

(P.S. Mom still lets me have a “fry” once in a while.)
