As more things in Arlington close down

that had been around for a while, do you see how arlington is just sucking more and more? You know whatever replaces the Santa Fe Cafe will be some pretentious, overpriced, Tavern type place.

Does anyone else feel that arlington is becoming worse? I'd still take the old asian places at Clarendon any day over the crap like Spider Kellys, and the other crap that replaced them. The area had character. now it's just a pretentious douchebag magnet where every place is the same, just having different names.

I'm still relatively new to Arlington (I've lived here since 08), but there are tons of places around Rosslyn and Courthouse near where we live that my wife and I love- Pho 75, Guarajo, Ray's places, Bayou Bakery, TNR, East-West Grille, etc.

We love Arlington.  But then, this is the first time both of us have lived in a place where we could walk to transit, shopping, and lots of different restaurants and bars.

You  missed Dr. Dremos. That got torn down so it could be razed over as a vacant lot for a few years, then to build another condo so more pretentious douchebags can move into the area. We also lost our taco bell to the pretentious douchebags who will be moving in.

We should all pitch in to buy steve a rocking chair so he can rant like an old man on his porch properly.

Nothing makes Arlington feel like it sucks more than novasteve, the local sock marrying, crap photoing malcontent.

I can agree that it sucks we are losing some of the local mom & pop flavor…but that's not really something limited to Arlington.  It's been happening all over this country for quite a while.

I would so it is drastically more so here than in other places. I think they even take pride in knocking down perfectly good buildings here to build a sterile new one. And what do we get? The Green Turtle.

So, steve, is all this due to the liberals?

as soon as the streetcar is up and running and ballston mall is less like tapas the new Arlington will be complete.

NovaSteve have you seen the yelp reviews on spider kelly's and clarendon ballroom? hilarious.

I've lived in Alexandria/Arlington/Falls Church since I graduated college in 2001, and I agree that Clarendon has lost it's draw (at least to me). All the new bars have no character, they are full of young yuppies (as opposed to old yuppies like me) who take themselves way too serious (based on my observations of how they dress and act). But that is life.

We could all band together and try to get some government action, such as banning brown flip-flops (except for ones that are certified 6 years or older), maybe put a moratorium on new development, or get referendums on bar concepts before the AC liquid board gives them licenses.

I gotta wonder though, would all this be a violation of the property owners property rights? Isn't all this complaining basically complaining about how the market economy doesn't serve you? If you believe in a free market, then since all the uppity d-bags outnumber you, and collectively have more money than you, the weight of your opinion decreases to zero.

Unless you somehow think that since you were here first you know better, and you and everyone else who agrees with you should be allowed to get together and make some rules that everyone else has to live by. Crazy liberal lawyers thinking that they know better. See how that works.

dynaroo – i put the check in the mail.  you should receive it soon.

jotorious – well said regarding the market economy.  if people want an old crummy bar with lots of character, they should open one themselves.
