Dog Spay/Neuter
  • just visiting July 12, 2012 - 12:57 pm #52237 Reply

Any ideas on the average cost of getting your dog (puppy) spayed/neutered in Arlington? I know Humane Societies, shelters, etc. offer it for less but I'm looking for the average cost at a vet.

    What about microchipping?

Note: not looking for a debate on whether or not to do it and/or when. I am planning on doing it at the 6 month point and am just trying to budget.

    Thanks!

    I remember correctly I think it’s around $200.

We used the vets at the Banfield in Falls Church. Doctors Castro and Withers have always been great.

Whoops – forgot about the microchipping. They also do that. I can't remember the price.

I had my cat, stinky, neutered at that Banfield. Nice people.

Well, he has been neutered, refuses to work, and sleeps almost all day, and expects others to provide food for him. I'm shocked my cat hasn't put up Obama stickers in my apartment.Wink

Clearly you refuse to work too.  Unless you're getting paid for all this ranting.

Does that apply to you as well?

I've made 80 posts in the last year. You've made almost 1400.  And they're LONG posts.  Filled with links you've researched.  Seems logical to conclude this site occupies a substantial part of your day.

I have a cat, not a dog, and he was already neutered when I adopted him, so I can't give you any cost ideas.  But I can give you a vet recommendation – Arlington Animal Hospital on Columbia Pike.  My cat's had some problems lately (just had some minor surgery yesterday, in fact) and I couldn't ask for a better veterinarian (Dr. Fred Jones) for both my cat's health and my peace of mind.  My wallet is a little sore right now from the recent blood tests and subsequent surgery (and the follow up tests) but that's because I'm perennially poor, not because their prices are exorbitant.  Now if only I could find doctors for humans that are as good as the doc I've found for my cat, I'd be thrilled.

hey guys, let's all “debate on whether or not to do it and/or when.” ARLnow style.

You should think about pet insurance. Since you are 6 months out, this should help you. Depending on the coverage, it should pay for the cost of microchipping (which I think is $25).  It should help off-set the cost (or pay it in full. Not entirely sure on that as my dog and cat were both fixed when I got them). Good luck. And have fun with your new puppy!!

Oh my God, how could you do that to an animal?  What gives you the right?

Thanks everyone! He's going in next week so I'll report back with the actual cost.
