I’ll be the first to admit that I’m notoriously long-winded when posting to the forums, so this time I’ll cut right to the chase.
I’ve decided not to renew my lease in Historic Colonial Village, choosing instead to start off 2014 by moving east of *both* rivers to D.C.’s Hillcrest neighborhood with my former girlfriend, now fiancée!
My question is as follows: Should I retire my ARLnow credentials and recuse myself from the forums, or stay on as a 2.5-year veteran of Arlington County? Accepting all feedback, constructive or snarky. (My one request--respectfully submitted, as always--is that you please not make fun of Southeast. Everyone, myself included, already knows it’s D.C.’s whipping boy. But, hey, at least Hillcrest isn’t in Ward 8, right? *rolls eyes*)
Tom....Congrats! It’s like this. Your girlfriend is no longer your girlfriend, she is your fiancee with an accent aigu. But, you can’t pretend she (the girlfriend) doesn’t exist? And she would be very upset if you did.
Okay, so you move to DC. You once lived in Arlington. Your home was Arlington. But, you will have a home in DC. So you can’t pretend your home (in Arlington) doesn’t exist. We would be very upset if you did.
Seriously, please do drop in and share with us. Especially if you work in Arlington (?), or party in Arlington (?), or just have sexual dreams about Arlington. Don’t we all?
Bottom Line: Your Arlington credentials once earned last a lifetime. :-)
DC? Have you gone mad, sir?
The first clue to your madness… proposing. The second… moving to DC. The third strike and you’re out. So, methinks you can still lurk and post around here.
If you still work in Arlington, your street cred stays. if you are both moving and working in DC then……roll out
Congrats @Tom if its the lady on your profile picture she is very lovely.
Tom: First off, congrats on being engaged.
And speaking of engaged, you’ve always been that here, long-winded or terse. I feel that as long as you can constructively contribute to the forum and remain aware of what’s going on, you should not only continue to participate, but we should continue to welcome your input.
Congratulations, Tom! I implore you, do keep your ArlNOW credentials. I think the majority of folks on here would mock Friendship Heights before SE.
Thanks, everyone!! I will, indeed, remain working in Courthouse, hitting the occasional happy hour and very likely coming back on weekends to do a bunch of whatever it is that I do when I’m not behind my desk. I’m super excited about every part of the situation. (Except, of course, for that Green-Line-to-Orange-Line transfer at L’Enfant. I almost got stabbed there while doing a yellow-to-orange transfer in summer 2011 shortly after moving down here, so there’s that, but I’m pretty careful.)
Above all, I’m really feeling that neighborly Arlingtonian connection that led me to settle down here in the first place. I wish you all (as well as your families) a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Southeast is kinda like Arlington. Lots of big money developers, corporate food establishments, not much old that remains. I figure you’ll carry your Arlington spirit forward to your new digs. Plus you’re still working here, which seals the deal — you’re staying. See you around.
Ankle bracelet for Tom to ensure he enters Arlington on the weekends and stays several hours AFTER work at least five times per month!
And, of course, wife to be (congrats) has privy to the GPS history. :-)
@dezlboy-- baahahaha I’m sure she’d be very unopposed to tracking my goings-about-town! Sidenote: Welcome back man! Where’ve you been hiding since the shutdown (forum, not government) was lifted?
Hi Tom. Thanks for asking. Around the time of the government shutdown, I mentioned in in the middle of one obnoxious thread that I was taking a “leave of absence” to dedicate my time to other matters. Glad to say that as of a week ago I completed my [long overdue] BS in Political Science! YIPPEE!
So, I have loads of time now. But, heck what happened? Things are so much more relaxed and sane now-a-days. :-) I may be forced to drive around Arlington just looking for someone to T-bone. :-)
First off, congratulations! The forum has been pretty tame as of late, and as a result my time spent lurking has decreased significantly. (It’s almost as if I have some semblance of a life now; how wild.) In regard to the T-boning, I don’t know who this Tom character is, but word on the street is that he *doesn’t* drive a black Altima and cannot be found in any Zone 4 parking areas.
