It's summer seasonal time! What are your favorite summer beers (seasonal or otherwise) and where can you find them?
I'm partial to Abita Harvest Lager (strawberry) myself …
I don't really like beer anymore, though I'm going to brew some of my own. Mr. Beer unfortunately. My place is tiny. I used to make good beer with my larger brew at home set, but I just don't have the room to do that anymore.
I am excited to see that Bell's Oberon (summer seasonal) is gaining some traction in the area.. Lately I've seen it at Rustico and Northside Social but I'm sure it's in other places as well… Also try Bell's Two Hearted Ale for a little more hoppy flavor.
Like billj, I'm partial to Bell's Oberon. Other gotos are “Mama's Little Yella Pils” which you can pickup at Lost Dog, Shiner Ruby Red Bird which I've picked up at Harris Teeter. Had a unique one called Hottenroth or something like that at Rustico in Ballston the other day which was really interesting and enjoyable.
I've been digging Anderson Valley Summer Solstice this year, and also Port City Optimal Wit. Normally I go for IPAs, but have decided to give them a break for the summer.
I like SouthernTier Hop Sun, which I used to get up in central new york. Whole foods had some earlier (back during the annual period when all the breweries collectively decide “lets release all our summer beers when summer is still 2 months away!” period…probably late april), but I haven't seen it in a while.
