I suspect many of the readers on ArlNow are either federal employees or maybe a contractor hired by a federal agency. Myself, I work for a 3-letter federal agency and am facing a mild furlough of approximately 5-7 days through the remainder of the fiscal year. The union is negotiating the specific terms for serving out the furlough days.
What are others facing in terms of planned furlough days/terms? What are you planning to do on your unpaid days off?
I work for a DHS component (e.g., Coast Guard, TSA, ICE, Secret Service) and we are not currently facing furloughs in our division (I can’t speak for other divisions or components). They cut funding for travel, conferences, courses, etc., and we have many open (including GS-14/15) positions that will continue to go unfilled until the situation is resolved.
At my agency it was recently announced that all monetary awards (performance, special act, etc.) are being suspended for the remainder of the FY in order to minimize furlough days. Tough pill to take on top of the salary freeze. But if it’ll avert a longer furlough period or the dreaded RIF, I’ll gladly take the hit. But it totally sucks.
