Greetings from Residential Parking Zone 4! I just replaced my dearly departed Civic with a car I purchased out of state. I’m parking on the street using a FlexPass registered to my apartment and am curious to know if any of you out there have had any issues with them. (I’ve only ever used mine on a car that was tagged in VA and tax-stickered in Arlington.) I do know that you can use the pass for guest vehicles, but mine’s a triple threat at the moment—temp tag, no safety inspection sticker and surely no tax decal yet. Do you guys think I’m safe?
Tom: I really have no idea. Maybe leave a note in the windshield?
BTW: what did you buy? just curious. And have you had the bullseye on the passenger door painted over yet?
Thanks, @Dezlboy! I don’t think it’ll be too big of a thing, just curious if anyone else had any horror stories about out-of-state FlexPass usage.
I am now the proud owner of a 2011 Nissan Altima! I’m in love—it’s a phenomenal car with only 5k on the clock. I had to really negotiate with the previous owner, but he agreed to airbrush over the bullseye before I picked it up! Barring any other spontaneous T-boning, I’ll have it for years. Also, you’ll get a kick out of this—one of the other vehicles I was looking at was a late-model diesel Passat. I’d have loved to get into that but, sadly, it looked MUCH better on paper (on-screen?) than it did in person. Womp womp
Ah….diesels! :-) Altima’s a good reliable car. Good choice. Good luck avoiding the t-boners.
Hi, Zone 4 neighbor! My boyfriend’s used my Flex Pass on his out-of-state, then-somewhat-questionably-inspection-stickered car (it had both an expired sticker for his old state and a current sticker for his current state) for up to a week at a time here with no problems. I’m not sure if this makes you feel any better, but I think you’ll probably be fine. Assuming you can find a parking space in Zone 4 in the first place!
@hermitcrab—thanks so much! Makes me feel excellent, actually. I checked my car yesterday after work and it was very fine, no violations. I just picked it up from the inspection station today and will be sailing confidently through the week until my tags/title/reg arrive!
Also, parking in Zone 4 is atrocious. I’m thinking of asking my nearby employer for a parking pass and *conveniently* using their garage…
Given that there has been a car with PA tags in Zone 4 for years, I think you will be fine.
@CourtLady—hahaha! Incidentally, that might be my roommate’s car. I’ve never seen it, but he owns one and mentioned once that it’s tagged for PA.
Courtlady, remember that this area is filled with military, and it’s legal for them to have out-0f-state tags.
QTR – Really? I had no idea. How does the county know – is there a special permit for that? This one I’ve seen actually had a boot on it at one time and I thought maybe it would get VA tags after that – but no it still has PA. Maybe that is why? BTW – I wasn’t passing judgement. I lived in NC for 2.5 years and never registered my car. I also lived in DC and had VA tags (I parked off street). Was just making an observation in reply to Tom’s question.
