Lost blue & yellow macaw in Crystal City
  • KS8284 June 17, 2013 - 2:57 pm #76976 Reply

From my office window I can see a lovely blue & yellow macaw perched on a window ledge ~7 or 8 stories up on the 1750 Crystal Drive building (plaza/courtyard-facing side).  Anyone know of a Crystal City area exotic bird owner who may be missing a pet?  It’s been hanging out on the ledge for at least an hour now, I’m afraid it might be scared and/or lost :(

Called AWLA Animal Control, they don’t have a way to capture it at that height (windows in these buildings don’t open), but will be checking lost bird reports.

This week a New York rescue crew sawed holes in the skyscaper window to rescue scaffold workers. Good thing they didn’t have blue and yellow uniforms!  (okay, that was a crude comment).  I hope the bird somehow is rescued, but I’m optimistic.

My wife and I awoke to the sounds of a very strange bird in Ballston/Bluemont early Sunday morning. Our first thought was that perhaps someone’ bird had escaped. Ballston to Crystal City might be a bit far, but it is an odd coincidence.

Yes, I received an email from HomeAgain pet recovery service 6/17 at 7pm, reporting a missing yellowish macaw named Sonya, who was last seen in Crystal City.  The email says to call 888-466-3242 with any info.

Those who are in the area, please put this number in your cell phone, you never know  888-466-3242

@Arlington, SSR: Just curious, why HomeAgain call you? Are you in the rescue league? Animal Welfar Dept?

My dog has a chip that’s registered through them and I opted in to receive notifications when an animal is reported lost in the Arlington area, in case I run into one of them.

The bird was no longer on the 1750 Crystal Drive “perch” this AM – although according to a colleague in an adjoining office, it was still there when he left work around 7 last night.  Hoping bird and owner have been reunited!

    Is there any update?

@Arlington, SSR…I didn’t know HomeAgain had that service, I’ll sign up for it.  Thanks

For DOGS:  My dog has a TAGG GPS collar, just in case he runs out of the house.  It’s relatively inexpensive, although after the “free service” runs out it’s about $8 a month.  (I don’t work for them…..)
