In a strange way, I like and respect this guy, despite what outlandish comments he might type up. Just think of how boring these forums would be without him. We’d really have nothing to talk about or debate, everyone would agree with each other.
And novasteve, we love you, we just don’t know how to express it.
Dezlboy’s really cool too.
Well…..I agree, Dezelboy is a pretty cool guy.
just this past winter some people were sad he was gone for a few days.
Novasteve writes comments and threads to get other people talking to each other. sure it can be hit or miss on the topic but who cares!
bread thats been sitting on a sidewalk, million dollar bus stops, streetcars and homeless people are what make Arlington the diverse, wild place it is. these threads would be very basic and boring if arlington didn’t have people like novasteve or remy munasifi. sorry but rich white people in the suburbs can be boring sometimes, its in our nature.
if you don’t like what he write here, don’t comment or read. move on to the next.
@MissKittenCat, what kin d of mental defective are yoU? Where do you get off telling others what to do. Pathetic.
“just this past winter some people were sad he was gone for a few days”
I remember that…Where’s ns? Where’s ns? I appreciate all of the back and forth. It’s a fun diversion.
Up to a point, one can ignore, don’t read, or don’t comment. However, endless deliberate flame bating posts and comments designed to deliberately offend at least 85-90% of the form participants, regardless of their particular political persuasion, with a degree of malevolent glee in stirring up arguments and then screaming to the mods like the cowardly school bully when someone finally hits back is another thing. Keep poking the Rottweiler, the Rottweiler eventually attacks.
Provoking thought is one thing, and I guess in some ways I commend him for doing that. Nothing wrong with challenging the status quo.
BUT his behavior tends to follow a certain pattern – make inflammatory comments to get peoples’ attention, and then ignore direct/tough questions that are asked of him in response to his inflammatory statements.
No one in this world is perfect and no one knows the answers to everything. I’ve not once actually seen him say something along the lines of “true, that’s a good point” or “I agree with you on X, but not on Y and Z”. And heaven forbid him saying something like “Yes, I guess I’m wrong about that”.
Now, granted, I’m not the most active commenter but I spend a lot of time on this site in between manuscripts at work. I’ve grown to love not only the forums but also their members. @novasteve stirs the pot, but I agree with @westwilsonmafia in the sense that the debate livens things up. I generally try to avoid encouraging “trolling” behavior, which novasteve is often accused of doing, but I give him a certain amount of respect for picking an issue and sticking to it. (Yes, even if I think he’s wrong, which I sometimes do. Personally, I couldn’t help but jump in on the whole stickshift-versus-automatic-transmission-causing-traffic debate.) I can’t remember the exact quote or to whom it’s attributed, which is probably best because it sounds rather Stalinesque, but it’s easier to shoot someone than to change their mind. My man novasteve is out here proving this point. All I can do is present my opinion and hope he sees it my way. If he doesn’t change his mind, at least he has been presented with another point of view and is more capable of making an well-informed decision. (Steve, I used you as an example throughout, but you’re not my whipping boy.)
@Bluemontsince1961, you touched upon a very important point—deliberately offensive material. I don’t condone it, but it’s out there and I don’t see it going away anytime soon. You can only put your fingers in your ears and shut your eyes for so long. Some of us have shorter fuses than others. For me, I guess it’s easy to separate myself from the ramblings of those whom I regard as loudmouthed malcontents because they’re on the other end of a computer screen. To me, winning an online argument is akin to being the nicest-looking bug splatter pattern on my windshield.
A brief aside: I used to live in Ballston but I work in Courthouse. Since I didn’t want to use public/private transit—and enjoy attempting to stay somewhat fit—I simply walked the mile and a half down Wilson to get to work. As a result, I would grow accustomed to seeing some of the people take the same path between 7:28 and 8:00 in the morning, albeit in the opposite direction. There was this one guy I saw toward Clarendon/Courthouse walking in the opposite direction as I was, and I don’t know what it was, but I got this weird subconscious feeling that HE was novasteve. I know, I know. It sounds weird as all hell (probably because it is) but I was so curious whether or not he was the guy. Clearly, I never asked because that’s such a weird question, but I was always curious. Could I have been passing this man every day? STRANGE.

As someone who has engaged Novasteve honestly and even stuck up for him when I thought he had a point, I gotta say, you miss the point. You can’t “present” Steve with another point of view. Steve will not listen to your views, ever. He will ignore your questions and your arguments. He will make up facts or simply ignore yours, or just ask another question, or change the subject, and he will throw in lots of irrational, angry, hateful rhetoric into the mix. Even when I think he’s right about something, which every once in a while he is, he manages to make a complete ass of himself.
He must love the attention you guys give him. Even negative attention is better than no attention at all. Kind of sad.
If he acted nice he could probably make a few pals here. Does ARLNOW ever do meet ups?
Personally, this is what I imagine novasteve looks like:
Tom- Don’t you think all of us have probably crossed paths? We shop in the same grocery stores, walk the same streets, hang out in the same bars and restaurants. It’s inevitable. And it’s interesting to think about. All of us probably have and idea in our mind of what each person might look like. I wonder how close we are to the real thing. I mean, for all we know, NS is a 75 year old lady. We know what you look like because of your avatar (assuming that is really you).
Novasteve is a well known Internet celebrity. He is one of the most important, profound, and prolific posters ever to grace this planet.
Here you may know him as novasteve but to others he is known as:
Other posters and Internet denizens cannot handle the truth and knowledge he delivers, so they conspire to shut him up, harass him, stalk him, and finally ban him from their safe Internet forums. Libbies cannot argue with him so they ban him like they banned smoking.
