IT IS CALLED AN ANALOGY.
On Planet Captain obvious, how do you make arguments since you obviously dont’ use analogies and thus dont’ make logical arguments.
An analogy is how you prove a point by showing a similiar situation/scenario. it’s also how you make arguments in law, and since we’re discussing CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, it makes logical sense to make logical arguments and thus analogies.
I support responsible gun ownership. I believe the Second Amendment supports responsible gun ownership. Anybody that does not have a criminal record, a history of mental illness, and is an adult over 21 should be able to purchase a gun. But with that freedom to purchase a gun comes the responsibility to learn safe handling and storage of guns. The people I know that own guns (who are also member of the NRA), are emphatic that gun ownership implies being a responsible gun owner. Not that my response will be “good enough” to satisfy certain people, but then again, it was demanded of me that I discuss the topic or GTFO the thread.
Logical people argue by making analogies. You should try it rather than trying to silence people by not letting them have an argument/debate.
Extended Analogy (from an extended list of fallacious arguments)
the claim that two things, both analogous to a third thing, are therefore analogous to each other. For example, this debate:
“I believe it is always wrong to oppose the law by breaking it.”
“Such a position is odious: it implies that you would not have supported Martin Luther King.”
“Are you saying that cryptography legislation is as important as the struggle for Black liberation ? How dare you !”A person who advocates a particular position (say, about gun control) may be told that Hitler believed the same thing. The clear implication is that the position is somehow tainted. But Hitler also believed that window drapes should go all the way to the floor. Does that mean people with such drapes are monsters ?

So when you hijack topics, its called an analogy. When someone calls you out for hijacking, its what then…?
Excellent. You wrote your opinion on the topic I presented. Thank you.
i propose that the moderators ban novasteve for good. he singlehandedly ruins this forum.
It’s very windy today isn’t it? Will it be windy tomorrow? Why do they say “Happy Chrristmas” in England even though they seem to be merry?
Excellent. You wrote your opinion on the topic I presented. Thank you.
I did…on page 3, go ahead and read it. You were too busy ranting about people getting off topic, weird.
By the way, how many of the forum rules did you break in your epic meltdown last month ? Why were you not banned ? Go ahead and don’t answer.
My view:
I think the fact that everyone immediately goes to “we need more gun control!” when something like Newtown happens is showing that people cant see past their own noses. I think the NRA director hit the nail on the head when he said we need to have armed deterents, be it some sleeping security guard or armed teachers. Either way the crazies will think twice about shooting up schools and they will turn their attention to softer targets and we will repeat the cycle. You can’t solve the problem by limiting what type of weapons are available at a local store. If a crazy wants to get an AR-15 to shoot up a bunch of people, he is going to get an AR-15 no matter how illegal the process is.
btw, I don’t own a gun.
He also blamed games…..in fact he blamed pretty much everything except guns. Sorry. On Topic. So what kinds of games do you like to play?
I’m really, really looking forward to the release of the new Sim City.
