Pentagon Row Subway Sandwich Shop Closed??

Hi, I drove by too fast in the evening to take a closer look; but, during regular business hours, the Subway in Pentagon Row (on Joyce Street) was dark, had no tables and chairs in it, and some of the fixtures on the wall were removed.  Is it closed, or closing, or just being remodeled?  Thanks!

The one in Chinatown disappeared suddenly too.  I went by yesterday and it was completely gutted and I’m certain it was still there last week.  Maybe it has the same owners as the one in PenRow?  The one in Chinatown was always busy so I am curious as to why it closed.  I never went to the one in PenRow but I used to hit the one in the food court at the mall pretty regularly.  Maybe they were too close together to be viable?

I had read or heard somewhere that Subway would be closing a series of its restaurants.  I’ve googled it but nothing comes up.  No clue if it’s for financial reasons or what.  Just remember hearing it.

    Per the County website:

“Establishment closed due to failure to obtain 2014 Food License and the Person in Charge not possessing a valid Food Service Manager’s Certificate (Northern Virginia Food Manager’s License).”

Years ago I chatted with a Subway owner. He told me Subways are independently owned. If so, either the closing in Pentagon City & Chinatown are coincidental or the owner of both shops fell on really hard times.
