our power in the Buckingham area surged a few times and eventually went out last night around 10. took a stroll around the neighborhood and most everything in Buckingham and Arlington Forest was dark. power came back an hour or two later, but anyone know what happened? i’m guessing a blown transformer?

yeah, but it wasn’t even raining when the power went. the storm had passed probably an hour prior. seems a little belated for a branch or something to fall on a line.

my part of Barcroft also lost power – I’m surprised the outage was so extensive.  It did occur long after the storms passed.  Our neighbors and my family heard 4 loud booms – and then the lights went out.  But we assumed it was localized.  Amazingly, fire department, police and Dominion Power arrived in a matter of minutes.  I don’t think the lights were out even one hour, so perhaps out booms were not the cause of the original power loss, but a reaction to a larger event.

Next morning, when I left for work (very sleepy, I might add), the electric company was already out working on the poles.

Makes the event even more interesting . . .
