Looking forward to a rare date night and I'm jonsing for seafood. Can't sell the hubs on QuarterDeck (too much work for crabmeat).
Anyone have a place they recommend for good seafood at not preferably not outrageous prices?
Seafood is very difficult to prepare properly. I think the only place I've been to in the area that does a good job is the Carlyle down in Shirlington. I know it's a chain and I wish I could recommend a pure seafood restaurant, but as a seafood lover and a person who knows how to prepare seafood properly, Carlyle is the only place I can think of in Arlington to endorse. Sad, but true.

Try Chasin' Tails.

Haven't been, but heard good things about it from a colleague.
Chasin Tails is good, but I'm pretty sure it's all fried. Very good fried oysters, but be forewarned.
There's a fun little place a little further along Lee Highway in Falls Church called The Beach Shack. Not out of the ballpark good, but they have a variety of different kinds of seafood on their menu; daily specials; and reasonably priced.
America's Seafood (behind the Lee Heights shopping center) is also good. It's outdoor seating and isn't open very late, but you know it's fresh. Also pretty much all fried, if my memory is correct.
There's a Legal Seafood in Crystal City, and another one in McLean. Pretty hard to beat.
If we want high end seafood, we almost always just go into town — Oceanaire on F Street is very good, as is Kinkaids on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Good luck — and hope this was helpful.
Ray's to the Third has rather delish salmon, seafood cakes (a lobster/crab/shrimp blend right now IIRC), the crab royale, and of course the sherry bisque. All are comparable in quality and price to their steaks, i.e., exceptionally good for a reasonable price.
Thanks all! I thought of Clare & Don's but hadn't considered Carlisle or the Lee Heights Place.
We are fans of the Great American Restaurant Group so we may head to Shirlington for Carlisle or to Tysons for Coastal Flats.
That's actually a really good question. I didn't realize the lack of seafood restaurants in Arlington….sounds like a great new restaurant theme.
Kellari on Connecticut and K has pretty good seafood. I also think Sequoia's is the best for the Georgetown Waterfront…or Sea Catch also in G'town.

Yikes! Legal Seafood is possibly the worst seafood I've ever eaten. Oceanaire was pretty bad as well. Kincaids is decent and I've heard the beach shack is terrible. That's the problem… so many places prepare seafood so poorly, that not many people around here know what good seafood tastes like.
Chasin' Tails looks interesting and I think I'll give that a go. But, I wouldn't exactly call that a date spot for seafood.
Seafood around here is miserable. Seriously, don't even try.
If you don't want to break the bank and don't mind having decent fish at a non-'seafood' joint, keep Boulevard Woodgrill in mind. They have some nice dishes, including an unusually good ceviche. I know…one does not usually equate these things with a place like BW, but it seldom disappoints and they have a wine list with a few interesting winners on there.

I second BW. The scallops are awesome and so is the vegetarian gateaux. Good wine and beer selection as well.
Although it's not in Arlington, PassionFish in Reston Town Center is one of the top places in the region for fresh seafood. Just read the Zagat ratings if you don't believe me.
