Saturday activities for 1 year old
  • Takato September 6, 2013 - 10:28 am #86115 Reply

Im new to the area and have a son that is about to turn 1 in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone knew of any activities or a place where I could find out about activities on weekends for babies. The branch of the Arlington library near our home does story time on Saturday mornings but it does not start until next week so that is out for tomorrow. Does anyone with babies have any other recommendations?

Welcome to Arlington Takato. I have a 21-month-old and I have to say that Arlington is a great place to raise a kid. My favorite website is kidfriendlydc.com. It’s updated often with lots of great weekend and weekday events.  Is your child walking yet? There are lots of parks and playgrounds in Arlington, and many of them are perfect for babies (we often spend a lot of time at Clay Park in Lyon Park.) http://themeanestmomma.com/arlington-playgrounds-and-parks/ has very good listings and reviews of pretty much all parks in Arlington. And check out Arlington County’s Parks and Recs classes here: http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/parksrecreation/documents/file90158.pdf There are several classes that you and your child can take part in. My son and I took swimming lessons from the county when he was a year old and it was great.  And if you’re still looking for storytime, the Barnes and Noble in Clarendon has them pretty regularly. Looks like they have one listed for this Saturday at 10: http://store-locator.barnesandnoble.com/store/2068

Welcome. Here’s another good site for ideas for this area: http://www.our-kids.com/

A nap is probably the best activity for a 1 year old at that time.

Is that about the same time you nap, John?

Welcome. I would look into Jw tumbles in lee and Harrison shopping center. Also, my wife belongs to this website… It’s useful. http://www.monamoms.org/ Also the toy store- kinder house on Fillmore st in Clarendon is a popular stop for us as they have toys out and the place is really a classic.
