Summer Swimming in Arlington
  • xyzpdq June 7, 2012 - 4:28 pm #50564 Reply

Growing up we had a public town pool and several pools that you could buy a membership for. They were all outdoor and seasonal.

Since moving from a condo to a house, I miss having access to a pool. Are there any outdoor public pools or membership pools that you could join in north arlington?

I've used the high school pools for lap swimming…but in the summer the last thing I want is to be in a hot indoor pool.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks very much!

There are a few threads floating around about this. Basic sense I got from them was that the waiting list is several years long, you have to pay a couple thousand dollars up front and nearly a thousand dollars every summer to use the pool.

Have you checked out upton hill? That’s public and you can either pay each time or buy a season pass, I think.

There are a lot of private pool clubs- many are quite expensive.  While not cheap, we joined the pool at Knights of Columbus.  Has a retro feel to it- two pools, diving board, decent snack bar, and an actual bar that serves beer, wine, and I think liquor.  There is plenty of picnic area space, a playground, basketball court, etc.  A North Arlington pool without as much of the snobbery that often happens in N. Arlington.

I posted the same question a few weeks ago.  Upton Hill is a definite option and I also found a great pool in DC in the West End.  It is $7.00 to non DC residents. Debit or credit ONLY.  No cash.  it's called the Francis Pool

I went last Sunday and really liked it.  It was just what I was looking for, except it was a little crowded and finding a lounge chair was a definite problem.  The GW student kinda stalk the chairs, so watch out.  Next time I am going to take my own.

Its a mix of families and college students.  It's not in Arlington, but it was super easy to get to from the orange line.  I just got off at Foggy Bottom and walked about 4 blocks – even stopped at Trader Joe's on the way and got watermelon and water.  A lot of people had small coolers.  It was very relaxing.  You can yelp “francic pool DC” and see reviews.  I haven't been to the Upton Hill one yet — a lot of people recommended that on my thread.  let me know what you think or what else you find, please!!!
