Thai in Arlington – Specifically good Panang curry
  • Hurley June 12, 2012 - 8:18 pm #50903 Reply

I'm looking for a good Thai place to get panang curry from. Thai Terrace (I think that was the name of the place, located on Wilson/Quincy corner) had amazing panang and since they've shut down I've been looking for a replacement. I tried that 54 place on Columbia pike and their panang sucked in comparison, Bangkok Bistro in Ballston wasn't too bad and will be a suitable substitute for now but I'm still looking for that knock my socks off place. I also tried Elephant Jumps out in Merrifield, dear mercy that was awful.

I sure do miss Thai Terrace.  Went there at least once a week for years. They knew me and I could order “Thai Hot” and get some real heat

Anyone know what happened to it?

As far as panang I have not found a match.  Crystal Thai makes decent Pad Thai if you as for it spicy then add some red pepper to it.

I have not tried their panang yet.

I like Thai Noy in Westover – their panang is pretty good.

Thai Square on Columbia Pike (just a block or so down from 54).  Had it.  It's good.

I'm no panang aficionado, but I did have it at the newly-renovated Sawatdee the other day and it was rather awesome

Try Duangrat's. Not quite in the county but close. Haven't had it in a long time but I remember the panang being good.

Thai Noi in Westover is excellent and always the place I go.  The bonus is you can order some food to go, then grab a few beers at the Westover Beer Haus before heading back.

Sadly because of sulfites in canned coconut milk, I can't eat – Drool – panang curry.  But I do agree about Thai Noy.  We Westover folk are lucky to have that as our local Thai place.  I've only had one complaint of late and that's an odd tendency replace some of the Chinese broccoli with the western stuff in the pad see ew.  It's almost an unforgivable offense.

Bangkok 54 on Columbia Pike has good Panang curry and an excellent Thai market next door.

I think that Crystal Thai has a good potato/beef/curry thing

I second Sawatdee's panang curry…  I get it every time I go there.  I have been meaning to try Bangkok 54 for some time now.

Bard's description of it as “newly-renovated” would lead me to conjecture that the answer is yes.
