My first choice would be Appliance Fix It although they are just over the border in Falls Church near Skyline.  They work on and sell Simplicity vacuums.

There's a small shop on the upper portion of Seven Corners, near Michael's.  It's Falls Church, but…

Not sure the name, but there used to be a shop on the back side of the Bradlee Shopping Center in Alexandria.  The shopping center has a McDonald’s and a Giant amongst other stores.  It fronts King, but the repair shop faces Braddock.  They did good work when I took my vac in years ago. Hopefully, they are still there.

+1 on the shop in 7 corners -

it's  called 'Vacuum World' and they are just awesome – I just picked up a repaired Sanyo!

What exactly is the problem with it? You might save a lot by doing it yourself. Unless the motor is dead in it, it's usually a belt, which isn't that hard to replace.

a few things. most notably the motor runs but roller doesn't (that part i did suspect is a belt issue — the vacuum is 10+ years old anyhow), the switch between floors and carpets flips back and forth on its own, the attachment hose falls out pretty easily. i've rigged up some workarounds, so it's still usable. ish. i'd like to find a good shop in case i attempt to fix it myself and make things worse.

Someone recommended Appliance Fix It.  They did a great job of fixing my vacuum cleaner 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, we took my girlfriend's mom's mower there.  Great shop with great customer service.
