Home > General Discussion > Viewing DC Fireworks from Ballston???
-
I have access to an office on the 10th in one of the buildings off of Glebe and 11th St. Does anyone know if the DC fireworks will be visible over the top of the buildings in Court House? I know that if you're high up in Randolph Tower you can see them, but I know thats a different viewing angle. From my office, I can see the dome at Catholic Univ, but the Capitol and Washington Monument are blocked by the buildings in Court House.
thanks
If they are, they will be small. I watched from the top of a building in Clarendon last year and even that felt pretty far away. Better to go elsewhere.
Same here. We watched them from the top of a building in Courthouse. Nothing better than being on/near the Mall.
We have staked out a great viewing location just on the DC side of the TR Bridge. It's not on the Mall (with the ridiculous checkpoints/entry points) but you can still feel the boom in your chest.
If you're interested in watching from Arlington rather than braving the crowds in D.C., there are two places you might want to consider. The first is the Old Lee Highway/Quincy Street/Old Dominion intersection. It's a nice straight shot down Lee Highway to the Mall. It's not the same as being there, but there is certainly a lot less hassle involved.
The other place, which I'm told is a good place to watch but I haven't tried it myself, is the roof of the parking garage at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon Row (pretentious spelling and all).
Anyone know if they're shooting them off at Washington Golf again this year? That's fun too — and you're right there, not several miles away.
Have fun!
Netherlands Carillon is a nice spot. Grassy and on a hill, it gets crowded but not uncomfortably so like the Mall.
I've watched them from the top floor of a Rosslyn office building, and despite the immaculate view, I am not likely to do it again. Watching fireworks from inside a building might actually be less fun than watching them on television. It's not the same if they don't “boom” — and there's just something special about being outdoors.
I recommend a rooftop if you have access or else joining the folks lining the Mount Vernon Trail/GW Parkway between the Marine Corps Memorial and Gravelly Point (or wherever the southern edge trails off…).
I watched last year from the grounds of the Air Force Memorial and that was not bad.

I agree, but the only thing my 2 year old is afraid of is loud noise so, was looking for some other options

I tried the top of the Washington Lee High School parking garage last year (the one over I-66); unfortunately, it was not very good – only saw about 1/4 of each explosion.

Rosslyn's Iwo Jima was the best spot in Arlington, but I stopped going there about 6 years ago since it is soooo crowded now.
