WAMU article: How Arlington Is Avoiding D.C.'s Traffic Nightmare

An interesting article on how Arlington’s steady “anti-car” focus is actually working, resulting in LESS traffic despite increases in workers and residents.  Makes me proud to be an Arlingtonian.

Reminder, unless she’s Amish, a woman you are dating, even if she doesn’t have her own car, is going to expect you to have a car. That’s just an unfortunately reality of life. I know plenty of women who don’t have a car, who would never even consider dating a guy who doesn’t have a car. So this car free diet thing is going to run into problems if you are into the opposite sex and you are male.

Do chicks dig automatic transmissions ?  Or do they also see the superiority that is a manual transmission ?

Another one of your absurd assumptions.  I’ve not had a car in 10 years…..and its never been an issue dating.    So nice try.

Maybe also in addition given arlington has less than a t hird of the people DC has, and not remotely as many commuters coming in to work in arlington as DC does?

Kind of like saying that Des moines has less traffic than Los Angeles.

Ignoring the fact that a huge portion of the commuters heading to DC are driving through Arlington, and still traffic has decreased.

Maybe because people are losing their jobs and fewer people are driving to DC as a result? More telecommuting? I’m curious, is Arlington seeking to be an obstacle for those who com mute from elsewhere that need to drive thru it to access DC?

If you’re an old geezer like me maybe, otherwise … untrue.  Millenials (20-30 somethings the most likely to be dating right now) are turning away from car ownership in record numbers.  And it’s NOT just the guys.  Just a couple of examples:

That’s because Gen Ys were probably expecting to get trophies for showing up to the driver’s test.

That’s four strikes.  You only get three.  Move along.
