I thought it might be a bum, but based upon the description, he was dressed in business attire, though he might have been wearing a shirt and tie for the past 2 years..
Also there were 4 bottles total. 1 used, 3 others found. I doubt some crazy bum would have thought ahead of doing more than just one.
Personally, I think “40 oz bottles” kinda gives it away. Plus you’d think even the most inept terrorist couldn’'t f— up a moltov. Fuel+bottle+rag+fire… how hard is that?
Edit: Just read the updated article–it's 40 ounce beer bottle now. Article also says it didn't “explode.” Moltov's aren't explosive, they're incendiary. The fuel spreads when the bottle breaks and the flaming rag ignites it–there's no explosion. The only threat to people would be if significant amounts of fuel landed on them and said fuel had a direct line to the rag (assuming it had stayed lit). Moltovs are great for causing panic and putting on a show, but they're pretty useless for actually inflicting casualties and a waste of effort in a country where you can almost as easily buy a few guns and shoot the place up.
spontaneous reaction to something he saw on u tube!

40s are convenient. Honestly, what else would you use? A wine bottle? It hink a 40 has more volume. More volume is “better” when you want to blow things up with hydrocarbons.
… why do you think comments were closed on the news article? i get why a lot of comments & articles are moderated but i don't see why here. it provides a great forum for locals to keep each other updated… what gives?
FYI, i'm just a wolf who doesn't understand much about much of anything
Terrorism or not, it's interesting that the comments were closed so quickly! I guess they were getting too tasteless, perhaps?

True. They probably break a bit easier than wine bottles as well–though it really wouldn't matter from that height.

Comments were probably shut down to help alleviate the traffic issue. Keeps the page size smaller and cuts down on pageloads as well.
If content was a problem, the comments would have been deleted as well.
Bum, suit, beer bottle, number of beer bottles – none of this determines whether it was “terrorism” or not.
Terrorism is mostly about motive. We won't know until we learn the motive.
Must be nice to have metro nearby when commiting crimes/terrorism. Easy, fast escape should it not be having door problems.

It's too bad the comments were shut down now that the article on ArlNow has been picked up by Drudge and linked from his site. People everywhere would have been able to be exposed to the art form that is ArlNow comments.

But, they're searching bags on the metro!!! Violating terrorists rights! Oh, wait… that was another steve thread.
Ah… it's good to have the last laugh…
And the only act of terrorism being committed around here is that the Ballston Common Mall continues to remain open.
That mall sucks.
Please bring this issue up with the County Board! That mall is turning into a real mess, and getting worse every day.
Tell Mary Hynes about it, bend her ear tonight at 7:30 p.m. She will be appearing at Ressurection Lutheran church on Washington Blvd in the Westover area. Mary Hynes is the current County Board Chair.
go to http://www.leewayoverlee.org
for information. Plenty of parking on Washington Blvd.
