-
The new development going up in Clarendon, the block that housed Eleventh, Crossfit, T.A. Sullivans and BB&T, was supposed to save the facade where Eleventh previously was as it had some historical significance (not from Eleventh, but a previous tenant).
The development company definitely spent a fair amount of time initially attempting to keep the facade and then save the structure, now I've noticed they've completely demolished it. Does anyone know if it was structurally deficient or if there was some other issue that made it unable to be kept?
Maybe they’re going to just add something to the new building that is remiscent of 11th like they did on Glebe road with the Bob Peck’s Chevrolet dealership thing?
According to the previous ARLNow post on it, that wasn't the plan:
“The frontage of a historic building on the block to be developed will also be preserved. The former McQuinn’s Sporting Goods store building — now Eleventh Street Lounge and Potomac Crossfit — will be preserved and incorporated into the northwest corner of one of the office buildings.”

Sounds like there were probably some structural issues, or something else, as they were definitely attempting to preserve it initially.
The facade was probably removed from the building and put into storage until it can be reattached to the new structure. This is what the developer of the Clarendon Center development did with the old facades that now front BGR/Larry's on one side of the building and Rabbit on the other.

Correct – the facade has been removed, is in storage and will be replaced after the parking structure is dug out.
