Z Burder: Open already?
  • AKB April 15, 2013 - 8:24 pm #70765 Reply

Howdy, folks, when will the Z burger near Clarendon joint open? It was light up like a Christmas tree as I biked around it. Need to try their veggie burger. I wonder if they use a separate grill. And, of course, wondering what oil they use for their fries. Any thoughts?

The bonus for non-veggie diets: if you try the meat, cheese, works, etc., then Urgent Care is next door. What a set-up? Just kidding!

There was an article a couple of months ago saying that they hoped to be open in 2-3 weeks. That obviously didn’t happen, and it’s driving me nuts as I can’t wait to try their shakes that I hear so much about. And maybe a burger too. :)

    ARLnow: a quick follow-up please?

We’re done trying to report on when they’re going to open. We’ll report when they finally do open.

“We're done trying to report on when they're going to open.”

That’s funny.  Since mid March the place has looked like it is ready to go – menu boards up, registers in, etc.  But week after week, nothing happens.  I still haven’t seen any staff being trained yet, so I’m thinking we’ve still got a ways to go in Z-Burger time.

And leads on what’s going to replace the old spots of Rays and the ABC store in that strip mall?

Z-Burger had an OPEN SOON Banner up for about a week, but that was 2 weeks ago at least. There is still some scaffolding towards the rear of the seating area in the corner at last check.

Maybe this is the “ZZZZZZZZZZ Burger.”

    Wake up!  We’re hungry!

Their Certificate of Occupancy was issued on Friday so it would seem the ball is in their court at this point.

They were serving food yesterday to friends and family.  Should be open for business to the public any day now.

@ARLNow.com and @John Fontain: Yeah, it is now open. Me and my buddies (three of us) had lunch there. The owner gave us free shakes, which were terrific. The place rocks! I had the veggie (with “Everything”). My buddies had a double cheeseburger and a double hamburger, both also with “Everything”. The onion rings are great. Great for Arlington to have this restaurant. Enjoy your visit, Everyone.

AKB, I stopped in for a burger and fries tonight.  Pretty good.  Simliar to Five Guys of course.  Didn’t try the shakes.  I’d highly recommend asking for a side of “z sauce” for your fries.  Really, no need to even bother with the ketchup for them.

I stopped in this weekend. As John said, the burger reminded me a lot of 5 Guys (which isn’t a bad thing), but with fresher and more generous toppings, and also less greasy. So I’d say this would be my new go-to for a fast burger. I tried a shake, but I don’t think they have their flavors up and running yet and the only one being offered was vanilla. It was good, but vanilla isn’t really my thing.

They’ve done a really nice job with the inside. The colors remind me of an old diner for some reason, but it’s a much more upscale and modern aesthetic than you get at most fast food places. They also have those soda machines with a touch screen that carries every flavor known to man and mixes them on demand, so that’s cool. I also had a chance to chat quickly with who I assume is the owner and he was SUPER nice. Seemed like the kind of guy you’d like to support in a new business. The place was doing a really steady business when I was there mid-day on a Sunday, so word seems to be getting out. The food came out as quickly as you’d expect and my order was right. Although they had a small army behind the counter, there didn’t seem to be much confusion or people getting in each other’s way, so they didn’t seem to have the growing pains that many places seem to have when they first open.

All in all a good experience. I’ll be back.

Sounds promising.  Guess ARLnow can finally report on it again!

Went again with the family on Sunday.  Really good grilled cheese sandwiches and pretty good shakes too.  Griffon, I agree that they did a really nice job with the interior of the building.  When this was being built over the last 18 years, I was skeptical of it’s appearance.  But now I think it’s turned out to be a nice addition to that part of Wilson Blvd.  The owner gave free shakes to our kids, which was a very nice added bonus.

Can someone try to banana’s foster shake and report back on how it is?
