Help fund ovarian cancer research while indulging in food and drink specials at Piola (1550 Wilson Blvd) on Sunday. Starting at 5:00 p.m., the Rosslyn restaurant will host the 3rd Annual Friends4Life celebration.

Piola will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to the HERA Foundation. The public is welcome and encouraged to bring along friends, family and neighbors.

Six finalists have been selected for the county’s 2010 Women of Vision Award.They are: Lillibeth Boruchow, Angela Fox, Judy Hadden, Kathleen Sibert, Linda Dunphy and Andrea Maresca.

The awards dinner will be held on Wednesday, March 31, at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (4301 Wilson Boulevard). ABC7 anchor Maureen Bunyan will host the event. The public is welcome, but a $10 donation is suggested.

New volunteers are required to attend an two-hour orientation session and should be ready and willing to assist staff in an emergency, participate in annual exercises and drills and support outreach and education projects. The next orientation will be held on Wednesday, April 7, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Spring doesn’t officially start until Saturday, but today felt like anything but winter.

The only complaint one could possibly have this afternoon is the excruciating choice between going out and enjoying the beautiful weather and staying in and watching the NCAA basketball tourney.

The details are still a bit sketchy, but Arlington police are investigating an indecent exposure incident that occurred this morning next to Williamsburg Middle School in north Arlington.

Sometime before 7:30 a.m., a man apparently jumped out of the bushes at 36rd Street and North Harrison Street as two female students walked by. We’re told he made “inappropriate gestures” and then ran off.

Of all the places to steal from, someone apparently decided to break into the Arlington Forest United Methodist church last Thursday to swipe some cash. From the latest Arlington Police Department crime report:

BURGLARY 03/11/10, 4700 block of Arlington Boulevard. On March 11 between 3 pm and 6:30 pm, an unknown person forcibly entered a church and stole currency. There are no known suspects.

“I personally have never seen one,” said Urias, who launched Your Shirlington Connection six months ago. Alas, Urias says he eventually received a note back from Connection Newspapers, asserting the company’s legal right to exclusively use the “Connection” name in Virginia.

“I thought I did enough to find out it was okay,” Urias said. “When I registered our company name in [Virgina], the name wasn’t flagged as a potential issue.”
