Arlington police are investigating a threatening letter sent to an official at Marymount University.
The letter was delivered to the Arlington campus over the Easter holiday but was discovered Wednesday afternoon.

For the past 40 years, Arlington has been practicing transit-oriented “smart growth.” As the population and the local economy continues to grow, a county-sponsored documentary was created to look back at the mistakes and successes of the past.

There were four homicides in 2009, compared to two in 2008. There has been one homicide (for which an arrest has been made) so far this year.
There were 15 rapes in 2009, compared to 23 the year prior, a 35 percent decrease
The event will feature an art show, a silent auction, a raffle for four bikes and various accessories donated by local shops, free food and drinks, and speeches by movers and shakers in the local bike world. Arlington County board chairman and cycling supporter Jay Fisette will serve as the master of ceremonies.
Tickets for the show are $20 online (available until 2:00 p.m.) or $25 at the door, and include two raffle tickets. The proceeds will benefit Phoenix Bikes, which serves the community and youths in South Arlington.
Arlington’s unemployment rate has risen slightly, but remains the lowest in the state.
In Arlington County, the unemployment rate in February was 4.7 percent, according to statistics released yesterday by the Virginia Employment Commission.
State Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (D), who represents Arlington, went on MSNBC today to criticize Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) for proclaiming April “Confederate History Month.”
Green Party Meeting Tonight — The Arlington Green Party is holding its monthly meeting tonight, and it promises to be an especially interesting gathering. Green Party leader Josh Ruebner suddenly resigned amid “internal squabbling” last week. Assumedly, the Greens will discuss new leadership tonight. Unfinished Construction Prompts Complaint — The county is trying to figure out why construction in front of Carlyle Restaurant in Shirlington has remained unfinished for six months, according to Shirlington Village Blogspot. A resident complained that there has been no work done since last fall.

Update at 4:35 p.m. — 11,676 people have signed up for the marathon so far.
Registration for the 35th annual Marine Corps Marathon opened at noon today. More than 8,550 runners registered for the race during the first hour alone. There are 30,000 slots open.

For the past 20 years or so, the George Washington University baseball team has played their home games at Barcroft Park.
Situated on Four Mile Run, just up the road from Shirlington, the quiet park seems a world away from GW’s Foggy Bottom campus. But about ten times a month in the spring, the park’s humble baseball diamond plays host to two NCAA Division I baseball teams and, occasionally, some pro scouts.

The 250 Arlington elementary school students who were invited to attend Monday’s White House Easter Egg Roll were treated to a reading by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, a performance by teen pop sensation Justin Bieber, and appearances by a host of other showbiz stars and athletes. And that’s not to mention the thrill of hobnobbing with President Obama and the First Family.
