Crime Report: “Don’t Save the Space, Save Yourself” Edition

In Lyon Park last week, police say a man purposely backed into a parking space, hitting a person who was assumedly trying to save the space for someone else.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY-ARREST 07/21/10, 900 block of N. Wayne Street. On July 21 at 10 pm, a man purposely reversed his vehicle into someone standing in a parking space. William Reintzel Jr., 39, of Arlington, was charged with Assault and Battery and held on a $2,000 bond.

Also last week, a purse-snatching happened in the middle of Courthouse while people were heading home from work.

ROBBERY 07/22/10, 2100 block of Wilson Boulevard. On July 22 at 6 pm, an unknown man approached a woman walking and forcibly pulled her purse from her shoulder. The suspect then fled on foot. He is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, 5’10” and 185 lbs. The suspect was wearing a navy blue t-shirt and jeans.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING-ARREST 07/25/10, 5000 block of Columbia Pike. On July 25 at 11:45 pm, a man was struck with a brick to the head by two other males. One suspect, Mauricio de Jesus Barahona-Mejia, 20, of Fairfax, was captured and charged with Malicious Wounding. He is being held without bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING BY MOB-ARREST 07/24/10, 4800 block of Columbia Pike. On July 24 at 2 am, a man was beaten by three men using belts. Two of the suspects were captured and subsequently charged with Malicious Wounding by Mob. Mefy Lopez-Martinez, 26, of Arlington, and Bayron Rivas-Gomez, 27, of Arlington, were held without bond.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY-ARREST 07/24/10, 4700 block of Columbia Pike. On July 24 at 8:45 am, a metro bus operator was assaulted by a customer after a fare dispute. Jerry Shannon, 55, of Annandale, was charged with Assault and Battery and released on a $1,500 bond.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY-ARREST 07/25/10, 627 N. Glebe Road. On July 25 at 2 am, after a verbal altercation, two men were assaulted by two unknown males. Edgardo Fonseca, 26, of Round Hill, and Daniel Salas, 26, of Springfield, were charged with Assault and Battery. Mr. Fonseca was given no bond, and Mr. Salas was given a $5,000 bond.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY 07/27/10, 200 block of N. Barton Street. On July 27 at 2:30 am, a woman was assaulted by a male acquaintance after a verbal argument.

INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT 07/21/10, 1200 block of N. Courthouse Road. On July 21, at 11 am, a construction worker fell seven stories after the railing he was working on broke loose. Wilmer Lopez, 35, of Springfield, died on impact.

BURGLARY 07/22/10, 1800 block of N. Rolfe Street. On July 22 between 11 am and 4:45 pm, an unknown subject entered an apartment through a window and stole a laptop computer. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY 07/25/10, 2800 block of S. Meade Street. On July 25 at 7 pm, an unknown subject entered the residence through a defective front door and stole the victim’s purse. There is no suspect information.

BURGLARY 07/25/10, 1800 block of S. George Mason Drive. On July 25 between 2 pm and 11 pm, the victim returned home to find the side door to his house open. Several items were out of place. There is no suspect information.

BURGLARY 07/26/10, 3400 block of S. Glebe Road. On July 25 between 9:15 pm and 9:45 pm, a former employee gained entry into the warehouse from a side door and stole wire.

BURGLARY 07/26/10, 3900 block of N. 4th Street. On July 26 between 10:30 am and 11:30 am, an unknown subject gained entry into the victim’s apartment and stole electronic items. There is no suspect information.

LATE BURGLARY 07/21/10, 2600 block of Marcey Road. Between June 28 and July 4, an unknown subject entered a residence and stole cash and a lap top computer. There are no known suspects.

GRAND LARCENY-ARREST 07/25/10, 1600 block of N. George Mason Drive. On July 25 at 5 am, a female was caught trying to steal narcotics from the hospital. She was also found in possession of stolen property from another incident. Valadaikia Head, 29, of Atlanta, GA, was charged with two counts of Grand Larceny, and held on $10,000 bond.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES) 07/24/10, 3000 block of S. Abingdon Street. Between 9 pm on July 23, and 8 am on July 24, several cars had their windows broken and items stolen. There is no suspect information.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES) 07/24/10, 4200 block of Campbell Avenue. On July 24 at 4:30 pm, several cars were tampered with and one GPS was stolen. The suspects are described as being teenage African American males wearing dark clothing and carrying backpacks.
