The Columbia Pike Transit Initiative is planning a series of public meetings do discuss the proposed Columbia Pike streetcar.
One of the meeting will be held at the Walter Reed Community Center at 2909 16th Street South, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18. The other meeting will be held in Falls Church on Monday, Nov. 15.
The driver of a gray Jaguar, apparently fleeing after a collision in Courthouse, rear-ended a police cruiser two blocks away.
The police cruiser suffered minor damage as a result of the crash yesterday afternoon, on 14th Street near North Barton Street. The Jaguar had significant damage to its rear end — likely caused by the first accident.
Columbia Pike is being shut down near the Navy Annex as Pentagon police investigate a suspicious package at a bus stop. The bus stop is located next to a Department of Defense-run parking lot.
Arlington police will be shutting down Columbia Pike from South Joyce Street to South Orme Street. The ramps from Washington Boulevard may also be shut down.
The restaurant, which specializes in “wings, beer and sports,” is being built in an empty ground-level space near the corner of 23rd Street and Crystal Drive, across from Jaleo.
It will be the sixth “BW3” in the area, one of two that are near a Metro station (in addition to the Rockville location), and the closest to D.C. proper.
Thomas Jefferson Community Center needs 20 volunteers to help throw a Halloween party for “200 small ghosts and goblins.” The event it to be held from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. In addition, the Arlington YMCA is looking for members of the Community Volunteer Network to help out with its haunted house, to be held at the Madison Community Center next Friday and Saturday.

Earmark Could Save Planetarium — Rep. Jim Moran says he’s going to try to dig up $400,000 in federal funds to help renovate and save Arlington’s David M. Brown Planetarium. But even if he’s successful, Moran’s press secretary says the money would not be available until late next year — past the fundraising deadline the school board set for the non-profit Friends of the Planetarium group. The traffic lights at the intersection of Fairfax Drive and North Stafford Drive are dark due to a small power outage in the area.
About 100 Dominion customers are affected by the outage. The company expects to get the power back on by 4:00 this afternoon.
Arlington County will be testing its outdoor warning system speaker system in Courthouse this afternoon.
The county says people in the Courthouse area may hear “loud horns and/or a test message” between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
The plan may also involve the building of office space above or in place of the current Macy’s department store.
No timeline was given for the renovations. Ohio-based Forest City Enterprises owns the 580,000 square foot mall, which attracts 1,000,000 visitors per year.
