Tribbett Decides Against State Senate Run

Tribbett had been considering running for the seat vacated by the retiring Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple. He would have faced a tough primary battle between County Board member Barbara Favola, who Whipple has endorsed, and Lt. Col. Jaime Areizaga-Soto, who is expected to officially announce his candidacy at tomorrow’s Arlington County Democratic Committee meeting.

“We have two capable candidates,” Tribbett told ARLnow.com this morning, adding that he was not planning on endorsing either candidate quite yet.

Where Food Trucks Go to Die

It appears that two District-based food trucks are dying an inglorious death in a Columbia Pike parking lot.

The trucks — Meathead Mobile Eatery and La Gloria Mexicana — were spotted cooling their heels last night in the parking lot of the former Bob & Edith’s Diner II location at 4707 Columbia Pike. Once free to roam the streets of D.C. and serve meals to hungry office workers, now they sit food-less on the Pike with “for sale by owner” signs in the window.

Vehicle Crashes into Columbia Pike CVS

A car crashed into the front of the CVS Pharmacy at 5017 Columbia Pike just after 5:00 p.m. today, injuring two people.

The car hopped the curb, smashed a low stone wall and broke several large windows. Only part of the front of the car actually entered the store.

Pentagon Police Vigilant Day and Night

The Pentagon Force Protection Agency protects DoD workers at the Pentagon and at other leased and owned installations in the Washington area. An article published today by the American Forces Press Service details the work of the PFPA officers who work the night shift at the Pentagon.

The article discusses how officers monitor the various sensors and cameras around the 280-acre Pentagon reservation. Among the sensors present inside and outside the complex are sensors that monitor for potential chemical, biological and radiological threat.

Worker Struck By Construction Material on I-66

A worker was reportedly struck in the head by a piece of construction material near the Patrick Henry Drive overpass on I-66.

VSP Urges Vigilance in Wake of bin Laden’s Death

Virginia State Police have issued a statement regarding the death of terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden at the hands of U.S. forces.

VSP is urging Virginia residents to “remain vigilant in their awareness to suspicious activity within their communities and workplaces.” Specifically, the agency is asking Virginians to be on the lookout for terrorist fundraising, surveillance and “dry runs.”

Arlington to Hold Emergency Preparedness Forum

The commission will be holding a public forum from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, in the county board room at 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, to gather “public input on preparedness and the County’s handling of emergency events.”

The forum is intended to coincide with the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
