Crime Report: Stolen iPhone Tracked Via GPS

A iPhone’s remote GPS tracking feature saved the day for a burglary victim last weekend.

The incident started when a resident of a house invited a woman inside for a drink early Sunday morning, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. After the woman left, one or more of the home’s residents noticed items missing, including an iPhone. The victim called police and used a GPS tracking feature to point police to the whereabouts of the stolen iPhone.

Police went to the address provided by the victim and found the stolen items, according to Sternbeck. The suspect confessed on the scene, he said.

BURGLARY, 10/07/12, 1300 block of S. Queen Street. Between 3:30 and 8 am on October 7, a subject entered a victim’s residence and stole numerous items, including credit cards, laptop, playstation 3, cash and an iPhone. The suspect was located through the stolen iPhone GPS tracker. Carole Jean Jamison, 40, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with burglary, grand larceny and larceny of credit cards.

Also on this week’s crime report, police say a man tried to rob the 7-Eleven store on the 200 block of S. Glebe Road, only to have his efforts to grab crash from the register foiled by the store’s clerk. Frustrated by his failed robbery attempt, the man proceeded to “trash” the store, destroying merchandise and throwing things to the ground, according to Sternbeck.

“He was knocking over everything,” Sternbeck said.

The man was arrested thanks in part to the fact that the clerk locked the exits from the store, trapping the suspect inside.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, 10/06/12, 200 block of S. Glebe Road. On October 6 at 2:49 am, a subject entered a 7-11 convenience store and attempted to get inside the cash register. A physical altercation ensues with the store clerk and the subject proceeds to destroy the merchandise and items throughout the store while trapped inside. Police arrive on scene and take Darryl Dwight Forrest, 31, of no fixed address into custody. He is charged with attempted robbery, destruction of property, assault and battery and providing false identification to police. He was held without bond.

ROBBERY, 10/04/12, 400 block of N. Glebe Road. At 2:30 pm on October 4, a victim was approached by two suspects while passing a bus stop. The suspects displayed a handgun and robbed the victim of his wallet and money. The suspects are described as two black males approximately 6’0″ tall wearing black clothing.

ROBBERY, 10/04/12, 2000 block of S. Langley Street. Between 1:00 am and 1:20 pm on October 4, the victim was assaulted by her boyfriend and had her cell phone forcibly stolen. Warrants were obtained and the investigation continues.

ROBBERY, 10/05/12, 2700 block of S. Nelson Street. At 1:35 am on October 5, two subjects attempted to rob the victim of her possessions. Suspects are described as a white Hispanic male, 24-25, approximately 5’4 and 140 lbs and a white Hispanic female, 21-22, approximately 5’3 130 lbs. Both subjects were wearing dark clothing.

ROBBERY, 10/09/12, 2100 block of N. Lee Highway. At 12:15 am on October 9, while on his way home from work a victim was approached by two unknown subjects wearing ski masks. The subjects assaulted the victim and stole his bicycle, helmet and keys. The subjects fled the scene in a dark-colored truck. The victims items were located in the woods a short distance away. Suspect #1 is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’11” and 150 lbs. Suspect #2 is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’9″ and 150 lbs.

SEXUAL ASSAULT, 10/08/12, 1000 block of S. Frederick Street. On October 4 at 8:30 am, an unknown subject grabbed a female victim’s butt as she was walking to the bus stop. The suspect is described as a black male, in his early to mid 20’s, approximately 5’9″ tall with a thin build. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt at the time of the incident.

BURGLARY, 10/06/12, 600 block of N. Quincy Street. Between 2:10 pm on October 5 and 8:40 am on October 6, an unknown subject(s) entered a construction site and stole numerous items. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 10/05/12, 2800 block of N. Glebe Road. Between 5:30 pm on October 4 and 11 am on October 5, an unknown subject(s) entered a victim’s dorm room and stole cash from a desk drawer. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 10/04/12, 1500 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. Between 7:00 pm on October 3 and 8:34 am on October 4, an unknown suspect(s) entered a business and stole multiple laptops. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 10/09/12, 1000 block of N. Fort Myer Drive. On October 4 at 11 am, an unknown suspect(s) stole a laptop and wallet from a classroom teacher. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 10/09/12, 800 block of N. Edgewood Street. Between 9 am and 5:45 pm on October 9, an unknown suspect(s) entered an apartment and stole a laptop. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY (ATTEMPT), 10/04/12, 1900 block of S. Columbia Pike. At 12:51 am on October 4, an unknown suspect attempted to enter the victim’s apartment through a window. The suspect fled when a victim alerted other family members. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY (ATTEMPT), 10/04/12, 3300 block of S. Wakefield Street. At 9:57 am on October 4, an unknown suspect attempted to enter the victim’s house through a window. The suspect fled when victim confronted him. The suspect is described as a black male, 30-35 years of age, approximately 5’11” tall, 180 lbs and was wearing a blue jacket and carrying a gym bag.

LARCENY (SERIES), 10/04/12, 2200 block of N. Fairfax Drive. Between September 27 at 10:30 pm and October 4 at 12:06 pm, multiple items were stolen from a business. There is no suspect(s) description.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES), 10/04/12, 1200 block of N. Garfield Street. Between 6:15 pm on October 3 and 11:17 am on October 4, multiple vehicles were broken into and numerous items stolen. There is no suspect(s) description.
