Crime Report: Forged Documents

A Falls Church woman has been arrested and charged with obtaining more than $28,000 in public assistance from Arlington County thanks to forged documents, according police.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

FORGERY OF PUBLIC RECORDS & FALSE STATEMENTS AND REPRESENTATIONS,05/01/13, 2100 block of N. Washington Boulevard. Between October 2010 and April 2013, a subject obtained approximately $28,121 of public assistance from Arlington County by forging documents and providing false statements in regards to residency, welfare status and medical diagnosis. April Dugard, 35, of Falls Church, VA was arrested and charged with Forgery of Public Records and Making False Statement and Representations. She was issued an unsecured bond.

“The individual was using forged physicians’ notes to certify a medical condition, and forged school forms,” said Arlington Department of Human Services (DHS) spokesman Kurt Larrick. “The forgeries were were pretty sophisticated.”

“We take fraud seriously, and have effective safeguards to prevent it,” Larrick continued. “When it does occur, we always take appropriate measures, which can include restitution and prosecution.”

Larrick was unable to elaborate on the accusations, explaining that DHS “can’t really say much about a case that is in the legal system.”

ARSON & ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, 05/02/13, 5500 block of S. Columbia Pike. At 10:37 pm on May 2, a subject attempted to rob a store by demanding that a store employee give him money. When the employee refused, the subject proceeded to light coffee filters on fire and announced that no one could leave the store. The subject threw several items at store employees, including at their sixteen month old child. All of the victims barricaded themselves in another room where they stayed until police arrived on scene. The suspect knocked over shelves, broke machines, and threw store merchandise all over the store. German Cruz-Coreas, 49, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with arson, attempted robbery, four counts of abduction, felony destruction of property, and three counts of assault and battery. He is currently being held without bond.

SEXUAL BATTERY, 05/05/13, 500 block of S. 23rd Street. On May 5 at 12:35 am, a drunken male subject approached a female victim in a parking lot and grabbed her breasts and buttocks. The victim fought the suspect off as he attempted to touch her again and alerted police. Jeffrey Krusinski, 41, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with sexual battery. He was held on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 05/01/13, 900 block of S. George Mason Drive. At 1:04 pm on May 1, several witnesses observed a male subject masturbating in Alcova Park. Boufelja Abdelouahabi, 52, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with indecent exposure. He is currently being held on a $3500 secured bond.

BURGLARY, 05/03/13, 3700 block of S. 12th Street. Between 11:30 pm on April 29 and 9:30 pm on April 30, an unknown suspect(s) entered a residence and stole a Dell laptop, gold ring and $60. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 05/06/13, 3800 block of S 12th Street.  Between May 4th and May 6th, an unknown subject entered his residence through an unlocked door and stole iPad and a watch.  No suspect description.

BURGLARY, 05/07/13, 2400 block of N. Underwood Street. Between 10:45 pm on May 6 and 5:45 am on May 7, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole a Macbook Pro laptop and an iPad. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY (Attempt), 05/06/13, 3200 block of S 12th Street.  On May 6th at 10:18 am, victim reported that her door showed signs of tampering.  Entry was not made into the home. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY (Attempt), 05/06/13, 4300 block of S 9th Street.  On May 6th at 11:18 pm, victim saw an unknown suspect attempting to enter his residence.   Entry was not made into the home. Suspect is described as Asian male, 30’s, wearing a red T-shirt and khaki pants.

BURGLARY (Attempt), 05/06/13, 1200 block of S 12th Street.  On May 6th at 11:06 pm, victim saw an unknown suspect attempting to enter her residence.   Entry was not made into the home. Suspect is described as white male, possibly Asian or Hispanic, wearing blue dress shirt khaki pants.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (Series), 05/06/13, 1100 block of S Hayes St.  On May 6th between8:15 am and 6:40 pm, multiple vehicles were broken into and items stolen.  No suspect(s) description.
